Education Reform or Business as Usual?

Randi Weingarten’s interview in the Wall Street Journal was disappointing but not surprising.  As the leader of the American Teachers’ Federation, the second most powerful teacher’s union in America, Weingarten revealed herself to be a staunch  defender of the status quo.  She doesn’t argue that kids are getting a sufficient education (that is becoming increasingly difficult), but she stood firmly against anything that might reverse the trend. Obama: Libyan Intervention A "Core Principle That Has To Be Upheld"

Moral and Legal Authority A government with moral and legal authority promulgates written rules and universally, impartially and uniformly enforces the rules, which provides a predictable and stable legal order on which to base economic and personal decisions.  The law prevails, not the proclamation or arbitrary decision of a ruler, government bureaucrat, the enforcer (e.g., policeman) or judge.

GE's Crony Capitalism: The Saga Continues

The other week, I blogged here about G.E.'s crony capitalism tactics that take advantage of tax code loopholes and other special treatment for big corporations by big government.  FreedomWorks has long been beating the drum against rent-seekers like GE and Duke Energy, so it was a little surprising that yesterday's  New York Times article, "G.E.'s Strategies Let It Avoid Taxes Altogether,"

Oregon: A Green Jobs Laboratory

Proponents of green jobs in the state of Oregon have been touting its successes, claiming the creation of “thousands of jobs”.  Borrowing from the narrative bellowing out of the White House, the Oregonian green jobs proponents claim tremendous job growth in a state mired in stubbornly high unemployment and awash in green energy subsidies.  The plain truth is that the spigot of subsidies to this green industry is rapidly fl

Rand Paul Introduces Five Year Balanced Budget Plan

Politicians typically break campaign promises more often than not. When an elected official instead chooses to keep their word, he or she deserves recognition for their consistency. With the rise of the Tea Party movement, many lawmakers are talking about cutting government spending. Few politicians, however, are willing to truly walk their talk. Some of those exceptions include new senators such as Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT).

Freudian Slip Means Boon for Brazil

Rising energy and gas prices are ravaging the wallets of American citizens and President Obama has taken bold, decisive steps in order to secure an abundant supply of oil in the United States for the foreseeable future.   This bold plan entails the outsourcing of American energy production to other countries such as Brazil.  Indeed, this new strategy represents the stale status quo that has been on autopilot for as long as Americans ca

ObamaCare One Year Later: Majority of Americans Still Oppose Unconstitutional Law

Most of us are likely to remember where we were when a national tragedy happened. As for me, I’ll always remember where I was when I heard that ObamaCare had passed the House of Representatives and was headed for President Obama’s desk. On March 21, 2010, I was sitting in the back of a crammed pickup truck from Kentucky en route to my home state of Maryland. A group of us decided to drive over nine hours to spend our entire college spring break campaigning for a long-shot senate candidate by the name of Rand Paul.
