Obama's Ideologies Obstruct Good Governance

Democracy and Power 105:  The Politician seeks power Dreams and impatience have always driven men in power to draw on the resources of others—be it slaves, the inhabitants of occupied lands, or their own children yet to be born—in order to carry out their schemes, to consolidate power, to grow their own fortunes.

The Entitlement Deficit: America’s Other National Debt

On May 16, 2011, the US public debt once again reached the debt ceiling (the legal cap set by Congress for how much the United States is allowed to borrow). The United States’ debt now stands at around 14.3 trillion dollars.  A quick visit to usdebtclock.org shows that the United States now owes around $46,000 dollars per citizen and over $129,000 per taxpayer. Those are big numbers; numbers big enough to get many lawmakers on both side of the aisle talking about reducing the deficit.

Quoth the Keynesians "Nevermore"

Many can recall the short story The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allen Poe, in which Prince Prospero attempts to avoid the plague that is ravaging the country side by barricading himself and a number of his closest friends in his abbey.  However, despite Prince Prospero’s best efforts he and his friends all fall victim to the plague.

See How They Voted Here! Key Vote Roll Call.

Congress recently voted on four pieces of legislation that FreedomWorks supported. Unfortunately, Rep. Rokita's amendment to the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act to reduce spending by 10 percent failed yesterday. All of the motions to proceed on the three budget proposals we supported failed in the Senate last week. See below to find out how your representatives voted!

Key Vote YES on H.ADMT.397 to Reduce Department of Homeland Security Appropriations By 10 Percent

Dear FreedomWorks member, As one of our million-plus FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representatives and ask them to vote YES on H. AMDT.397 on H.R. 2017, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2012. The amendment offered by Rep. Rokita (R-Ind.) would cut homeland security funding by 10 percent across the board. The only exception is funding for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to enforce border security. The total savings would be $2.47 billion off the base bill and $3.54 billion from current spending levels.

The Fight Has Just Begun: The Internet Sales Tax

On Tuesday, Governor Rick Perry issued his first veto of the year, vetoing HB 2403, an Internet sales tax bill which FreedomWorks opposed. By vetoing HB 2403 Governor Perry has saved taxpayers and business alike from burdensome regulations and new taxes. In vetoing the legislation Perry cited that a key reason for his veto was that there was no consensus between lawmakers, tech experts, consumers and retailers.

The Light Bulb Police

If one enjoys having a well-lit home at a reasonable price, one best run to the nearest hardware store and stock up on traditional incandescent light bulbs as if they were going out of style. Because due a 2007 decision by President George W. Bush, the common incandescent light bulb will be officially so last year in 2012. What is the government approved substitute?
