The Tea Party's Discontent: What Now?

BY Lindsey Boerma

The red paint is still drying from the House's proverbial color scheme change, but the relationship between Republicans and the movement that helped elect them is already starting to chip.

I happen to carry a pocket size copy of the constitution in my purse. It is coffee stained, torn, wrinkled and, has various random telephone numbers and notes written on it. I have carried it with me ever since Obamacare was passed; it is my reminder of the limitations of my federal government, a reminder of their responsibilities. It is also a reminder of how powerful a simple and short document can be.

Republicans to begin reading Constitution out loud when they control U.S. House

BY Philip Rucker and Krissah Thompson (of the Washington Post)

WASHINGTON -- When Republicans take over next week, they will do something that apparently has never been done before in the U.S. House's 221-year history: They will read the Constitution aloud. And then, they will require that every new bill contain a statement by the legislator who wrote it, citing the constitutional authority to enact the proposed law. Call it the tea party-ization of Congress.

FreedomWorks Corrects the Obamacare Spin: Spending Money Will NOT Reduce Debt

WASHINGTON, DC- As its first major act, the new Republican majority in the House of Representatives will vote on a bill promising the complete repeal Obamacare on January 12th. Yesterday, less than a week before the vote, a letter was released by the Congressional Budget Office estimating that the repeal of Obamacare would increase the deficit by $230 billion over 10 years.

Repealing ObamaCare will not increase the deficit

As the 112th Congress approaches a vote on legislation that would repeal in its entirety the ObamaCare health care law, many of the lawmakers who worked to pass the legislation are now crying foul.  On Tuesday, former-House Speaker turned House Minority L

Welcome 112th Congress—We Must Hold Government Accountable in 2011

Over a century ago, Judge Gideon Tucker first said “no man’s life, liberty or property is safe when the legislature is in session.” Those words still ring true today. As the 112th Congress starts, we should remain watchful but there is some reason for hope. Today, the Constitution was read on the floor of the House for the first time in the history of America. This is encouraging news.
