A Kansan Perspective on Common Core

Though there are many things I love about Kansas, it’s the Sunflower State’s record of defying federal imposition that gives me the greatest pride in my home state.

The Income Tax and IRS Squelch Freedom

Personal Freedom and Prosperity 101: Personal PowerThe distinctive principle of Western social philosophy is individualism. It aims at the creation of a sphere in which the individual is free to think, to choose, and to act without being restrained by the interference of the social apparatus of coercion and oppression, the State. All the spiritual and material achievements of Western civilization were the result of the operation of this idea of liberty. —Ludwig von Mises

Ten Reasons The IRS Should Not Be In Charge of ObamaCare

The IRS has been in the news a lot lately, but with all the hubbub of corruption and scandal, it’s easy to forget that they are also the agency set to be put in charge of enforcing and implementing the Affordable Care Act, colloquially known as ObamaCare, when it goes into full effect later this year. The Rise of the Professional Amateur

The world is changing, and the advance of technology has reached an amazing rate. Still more amazing, however, is the way in which technology results in ever more decentralized knowledge and ability, allowing individuals from every walk of life unprecedented access to formerly restrictive fields. The 3D printing process has been in the news a lot lately owing its potential to put manufacturing directly into the hands of consumers and the implications of such a change for the future, but this sort of thing is hardly new.

My Visit To Omaha Beach

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to spend some time in France studying World War II. I left with an incredible appreciation for our veterans and their sacrifice. This is the story of my visit to the Memorial Cemetery at Omaha Beach.  As we celebrate Memorial Day, may we always remember those that paid the ultimate price for freedom.

Recovery? Revisit the Corporate Tax.

On Thursday, economists at the New York Fed released a report forecasting sluggish economic growth this year, due to the government’s fiscal policy.  This should be no surprise since the prevailing anti-business attitude in Washington is producing policies that are impeding economic growth. One such policy is the U.S. corporate tax, which stands at 40% combining both federal and average state taxes, making it two-thirds higher than the global average.

Investigate Apple? That's Unfair.

Paying taxes isn’t fun. For the average American, it often requires special software or an accountant to find all the obscure deductions and exemptions. Unfortunately for Apple, they got in trouble for doing essentially the same thing. They chose to wisely look at the law and arrange their money in such a way that legally lowered their tax burden.
