Sen. Coburn Blocks Unemployment Benefits To Help Reduce Deficit

Due to Congress’ inability to pass a resolution by unanimous consent, extended unemployment benefits will likely temporarily expire for 200,000 Americans. Congress attempted to pass this so-called emergency extension of unemployment benefits before Easter break. However, Sen. Coburn (R-OK) blocked the $10 billion because the costs were not offset and it would add to our federal deficit. In Sen. Coburn's own words,

Staggering unemployment levels take toll on young Americans

In an article found in this morning's Wall Street Journal, Princeton University's Katherine Newman delivers one of the most disturbing quotes that I have read in a long time: We may have well given up on the idea that our kids will do better than us, but the idea that they should do as well, that's something we haven't given up on yet.Professor Newman's quote isn't troublesome because it is untrue.  It is troubl

Labor Department's March Jobs Report Inflated By Census Hiring

The Labor Department’s March jobs report was released today indicating that job growth was less-than-expected. While the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 9.7%, a record number of 6.5 million Americans have been out of work for at least six months. The majority of forecasters predicted that there would be 200,000 new jobs in March.

ADP Jobs Report: 23,000 Private Sector Jobs Lost in March

A disappointing ADP jobs report shows that 23,000 private sector jobs were lost in March. This data was shocking to some forecasters who predicted that economic recovery was on the way. The Washington Post claimed that the construction industry and factories fared the worst in the ADP report,

April 6 Rally in Raleigh

As I explained in an email last week, since the Obama, Pelosi, Reid health care debacle was signed into law, at least fourteen states have joined a lawsuit against the overhaul, arguing that the law’s requirement that individuals buy health insurance is unconstitutional. This is a huge step in the continuing fight against the government takeover of health care and the preservation of our individual liberties.

Government Overhaul of Student Loans Likely to Eliminate Jobs and Increase Tuition Costs

Today, Obama signed the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 which grants government substantially more control over higher education. This legislation overhauls student loans by making the federal government the primary distributor of student grants and loans. In addition, it expands Pell Grants by more than $40 billion and provides billions of taxpayer dollars to community colleges and historically black colleges and universities.

Dan Mitchell: "The Flat Tax: How it Works and Why it is Good for America"

Below is a video from Cato Institute scholar Dan Mitchell explaining how the flat tax would be a simple and honest solution to eliminating special interest corruption of the internal revenue code.  In addition, the flat tax would boost economic growth and benefit families and businesses.

Obama's middle finger has a name: Craig Becker

On Saturday, among Barack Obama’s 15 “recess appointees” was SEIU attorney Craig Becker to a seat on the National Labor Relations Board. From that spot, Becker is likely to try to institute “Card Check” (or worse) through administrative fiat since it appears unable to pass Congress. Becker is as radical as anybody in (or formerly in) the Obama Administration. He’s as radical as the overtly socialist Carol Browner and the overtly communist Van Jones.
