Congressional Democrats Express Dissatisfaction with Obama Budget

A fair share of congressional Democrats have expressed confusion and dissatisfaction with President Obama’s 2011 FY budget proposals. Since the budget was released, it has increasingly been subject to heavy scrutiny and criticisms among Democrats. In addition to fiscally conservative Republicans, a growing number of Democrats are realizing that, in many ways, Obama’s budget is impractical and too costly.

Unfortunately, Expanding Pell Grants Likely to Increase College Tuition and Fraud

In Obama’s proposed 2011 fiscal budget released yesterday, he calls for a massive expansion to the Pell Grant program. The Pell Grant, given to undergraduate and some graduate students that can demonstrate financial need, will be expanded to approximately $35 billion.  It’s no secret that tuition costs are soaring particularly at public colleges and universities.

What Are the Consequences of Obama's $3.8 billion Budget?

President Obama’s newly released budget proposal clearly indicates that he is not focused on decreasing our country’s fiscal deficit anytime soon. Instead, Obama plans on spending $3.8 billion of taxpayer money that taxpayers can’t afford.

Arkansas Action Alert

An important vote is coming up in the U.S. Senate that could help shape the climate change debate.   Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) has introduced a resolution of disapproval to challenge the Environmental Protection Agency’s “endangerment” finding, which allows the EPA to treat carbon dioxide (CO2) as a pollutant and therefore regulate it under the Clean Air Act. This is the Obama Administration’s way of setting the stage for cap and trade.

Card Check: "I'm not dead yet"

At least according to AFL-CIO President Richard Tumka, who is predicting card check will pass this year.  Trumka said that lawmakers would pass the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) as well as healthcare reform this year, despite Republicans having picked up enough votes in the Senate to sustain a filibuster. "I think we'll get health care done and I think we'll get labor law reform done before the year's up," Trumka said during an appearance on CNN.

Obama's 2011 Fiscal Budget: More of the Same

Today, the White House released Obama’s remarks regarding his budget for the fiscal year 2011:  We simply cannot continue to spend as if deficits don't have consequences; as if waste doesn't matter; as if the hard-earned tax dollars of the American people can be treated like Monopoly money; as if we can ignore this challenge for another generation. We can't. No, it’s not April Fools day.
