Update: Over 4,000 Attend Williamsport Tea Party

Williamsport hosted a huge tea party in the run-up to 9/12 on Saturday with over 4,000 coming out to hear from Mr. Thomas Paine and others.  The crowd put up with intermittent rain with great spirits and rounded out the event with a march down to the Market Street Bridge for a ceremonial throwing of "tea" into the Susquehanna River.  The Williamsport Tea Party did a great job organizing the rally and signed up hundreds to come to D.C.

Recap: The 2009 Steamboat Institute Inaugural Freedom Conference

I’ve just returned from a few days in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado, including attending in (and briefly speaking at) the inaugural Steamboat Institute Freedom Conference.  (I encourage you to read the 4 newspaper articles linked to throughout this note.) Although the event was a first-attempt effort by my Leadership Program of the Rockies Advisory Board colleague, Jennifer Schubert-Akin, you’d never know.  The weekend was remarkable and, from my vantage point, essentially flawless.

Rep. Moran and Howard Dean Town Hall

When Rep. Jim Moran and Howard Dean teamed up to hold a town hall last night in Reston, some FreedomWorks staff and friends went too. After all, we are his constituents.  We arrived far too late to get inside (a long Metro commute and 9/12 preparations don't lend themselves to timeliness), but had a great time talking with folks outside about FreedomWorks, the March on Washington, and the need to make sure cap and trade isn't lost in all the health care discussion.  Below are some pics of the night.

Senator Ted Kennedy dead at the age of 77

Late last night, Ted Kennedy died of brain cancer.  A long-time fixture in American politics, a man with, let’s say, an interesting history, and the last of the major “Camelot” figures of the Kennedy dynasty (despite, of course, there still being plenty of Kennedys around), the US Senate will be a different place without him.

FreedomWorks Won’t Let Cap-and-Trade Energy Tax Battle Slip off the Radar

Despite the recent blitz in media attention given to the debate over health care, there is yet another political battle looming for conservative, limited government advocates: a cap-and-trade carbon emissions regulatory scheme every bit as much a threat to taxpayers’ wallets and fundamental freedoms as the Left’s proposed government takeover of America’s health care system.   And cap-and-trade has actually progressed further in the legislative process, as the House has already passed a bill (Waxman-Markey) that would institute a massive new regulatory regime that would impose significant new costs on consumers and the economy as a whole while producing little in the way of any tangible environmental benefit.
