Offering MoveOn a helping hand.

On September 3rd, leftist group “MoveOn.org” announced that it would create advertisements to tell Americans how much money their elected officials were taking in campaign contributions from health care and health insurance interests.  In an email to its members, MoveOn said that its new ads would, “…let voters know exactly how much money their representatives have taken from the insurance industry, whose top goal this year is to kill the public option.” Here at Freedo

Sources Say Baucus Bill Gives FBI Open Access to All Medicare and Medicaid Records

Washington, DC - According to credible  sources familiar with the Senate Finance Committee’s health care bill—the “Baucus Bill”—the current legislation gives the Department of Justice and the FBI unprecedented and unfettered access to the Medicare and Medicaid records of all 80 million-plus Americans enrolled in those programs. Unfortunately, it’s Senate Finance Committee “tradition” not to release the actual legislative language for the American people to read while the Committee amends it.

Crowd Counts Are a Game Nobody Wins

BY Petula Dvorak

Numbers don't lie, right? But the problem is, there are lots of numbers out there when it comes to counting crowds at Washington demonstrations. And finding the person who isn't lying about the numbers is a perennial sport when it comes to protest politics in the nation's capital. The organizers of a demonstration exaggerate, sometimes by the hundred thousand. The opposition dismisses the crowd, slicing it by at least a half. Police, if they talk crowd size at all, are all over the place. And federal agencies have learned to stay far, far away from the game.

Obama Misses the Mark on Climate Change Policy

Today, President Obama spoke before the United Nations to address the issue of climate change. In a speech in which he highlighted the United States’ record on energy policy, the president also called on other nations to join him in his “urgent” fight against climate change. Seen by many as a lead-in to this week’s G20 Summit and December’s climate summit in Copenhagen, the speech revived President Obama’s domestic energy initiatives at a time when most of the public debate has been dominated by health care.

Liberal Mathematics- Bad Idea Then = Good Idea Now

In 1993, with the help of then Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell, President Clinton introduced a plan to reform the American health care system.  The plan—and the debate that ensued as a result of it—captivated the nation.  As a member of the Senate, Tom Daschle joined the liberal quest for universal health care.  After months of disputing the particulars of the bill, however, Daschle found himself holding the short end of the health care reform stick.  President Clinton’s efforts were declared dead

FCC Misguided on Net Neutrality

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced today that it will revive the debate over net neutrality and issue new regulations concerning network management. The new regulations will be designed to prevent content discrimination and maintain network management transparency with the ultimate goal to “safeguard the free and open internet,” according to FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski.  The announcement emphasized the importance of the internet in innovation and investment as well as the role it plays in entrepreneurship.
