S-CHIP: A Failure, But Also a Success!

E.J. Dionne's column on S-CHIP today strikes me as somewhat oddly reasoned:

Throwing Out S-CHIP

The President and Congress can't seem to come to an agreement on what to do about S-CHIP. Congressional Democrats, and, unfortunately, a number of Republicans, want to lard the program with tens of billions more in taxpayer dollars. Bush just wants to adjust the program for inflation so that it keeps on going more or less as it is. In today's New York Post, Cato's Michael Cannon has a better solution: Dump the program entirely.

Key Vote 'NO' on the big government SCHIP bill

On behalf of nearly 850,000 FreedomWorks members nationwide, I write to urge you to VOTE NO on the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) reauthorization bill up for a vote Tuesday. The bill exceeds the president’s already generous request by $30 billion dollars, and he is right to threaten a veto.

Guess Who's Coming to (Just) Dinner

So, President Bush will only attend one part of a UN gabfest on global warming--the dinner--and, needless to say, people are irritated. The Times article makes it sound as if Bush is out for a round of golf and drinks: "Bush to Skip U.N. Talks on Global Warming" is the headline. But is the White House really so absent on the issue?

Hillary Groks the Fullness

Hillary did a "full Ginsburg" this weekend, hitting all five Sunday talk shows on the same day.  And of course, she talked up her health-care plan.  According to Time:

It's Official: Capitalism Won

From this morning's Financial Times: Yes, that's Mikhail Gorbachev... in a Louis Vuitton ad. Update: I'm told this is kind of old news for people who read Vogue.   That's Washington, I guess, and politics in general -- always behind when it comes to style.

There's been a lot of furor surrounding the release of Alan Greenspan's memoir, and Robert Novak takes his shots at the book in today's Post:
