FreedomWorks Defeats North Carolina Smoking Ban!

In a major North Carolina property rights victory, H259, the bill that would “Prohibit Smoking in Public and Work Places,” was defeated yesterday at the state house in Raleigh. It was a good day for those who value private property rights. By a six vote margin, H259 failed on its second reading. Nineteen Democrats voted against the proposal and eight Republicans supported it.

Matt Kibbe: Social Security bankruptcy is the real inconvenient truth

BY Matt Kibbe

Next time Al Gore accuses President Bush, or anyone for that matter, of putting off global warming for future generations, ask him what he plans to do about Social Security. Gore’s recent agitprop production, “An Inconvenient Truth,” has sounded alarms for anti-energy extremists all over the world. A rash of radical policy proposals have been put forward to address a debatable crisis. Gore has proposed several reforms, including a moratorium on all coal-fired electric plants.

Greensboro News-Record: N.C. House votes down smoking ban

Papers are reporting: "The state House rejected a measure that would have outlawed smoking in restaurants and allowed local governments to set their own local smoking laws. The vote Wednesday afternoon was 55-61. Guilford County Reps. Alma Adams, Pricey Harrison and Maggie Jeffus, all Democrats, supported the bill. The other three Guilford representatives -- Democrat Earl Jones and Republicans John Blust and Laura Wiley -- voted against the measure.   "

FreedomWorks Grassroots Effort Helps Deliver Cable Choice in Florida

FreedomWorks’ grassroots activism paid off for consumers when the Florida House voted this week 117-2 in favor of HB 529, the Consumer Choice Act of 2007. This bill will allow consumers to benefit from increased competition and innovation in the video services arena by streamlining the currently complex and cumbersome video franchising process. To build widespread support and push this reform over the top, FreedomWorks engaged its grassroots army in an integrated campaign that put our volunteers in touch with their legislators via email, phone, and face to face lobbying.

< p class="MsoNormal">Al Gore has been touring the nation with his media presentation and book sale entitled “The Inconvenient Truth.  His claim is that human caused global warming if left unchecked will have future disastrous global affects such more severe storms, rising sea levels, shrinking land mass, etc.  He attributes global warming to increased CO2 emissions from fossil fuels used to power our industries, our homes, and our automobiles.  We have been bombarded by proponents calling for government action to reduce CO2 emissions which translates to more costly governm

Oregon's Butts, Blogged for You

Oregon's Butts, Blogged for You Look who's hit the blogosphere! That's right, it's that smiling, smoldering, recent denizen of the Capitol, Mr. Butts! And somehow, despite a large cone of ash for brains, he's mastered HTML and the internets well enough to debut his own blog, somewhat more aggressively cited as "tobaccoagainsthealthykids.blogspot.com".

California Seeks Fed Disaster Aid for Freeway Accident

BY

A truck accident took out an interstate overpass this weekend, and now California officials want U.S. taxpayers to pay for it out of federal "emergency disaster" funds, according to California Department of Transportation director Will Kempton as quoted in the New York Times. A single-truck accident is hardly a national disaster, no matter how bad the San Fran commute gets.

Thank you Mister Chairman. Good Morning. My name is Kathy Hartkopf and I live in Hillsborough, North Carolina. From Edison on, this mantra of hard work and commitment has made this company an industry leader.

FreedomWorks Asks Tough Questions on Free Press Conference Call

Free Press wants to force net neutrality on ISPs while failing to note that their corporate allies, the web search engines and portals, also exercise content and pricing control over their ad and search networks.  Here is the audio for the web (Mp3, 1.5 MB). Note how long it took to answer the question.

FreedomWorks Takes on the Greens Outside GE Shareholders Meeting

This Tuesday 50 FreedomWorks activists from the Greenville, South Carolina area protested outside the General Electric annual shareholders meeting. Our volunteers took the company to task for its involvement in The U.S. Climate Action Partnership (USCAP), an organization that is calling for an economically harmful cap and trade system on emissions. FreedomWorks supports sound and reasonable energy policy, and knows that putting such caps in place would only hurt our economy and send more jobs overseas by making us less competitive globally.
