Oregon's kicker is a hallmark worth protecting

BY Russ Walker

Children across Oregon will wake up on Christmas morning this year to find an extra book in their stocking and an unexpected game under the tree. Recent college graduates, struggling to make ends meet in their new jobs while paying off student loans, will be able to pay down some credit card debt instead of adding to it. Some families who normally would only be able to afford a small turkey for their holiday dinner can splurge and treat themselves to a ham.

Cautionary Tale of Congestion Pricing

BY Dr. Wayne Brough

With Christmas and winter weather fast approaching, most Americans are anticipating a holiday with friends and family. Many, however, are also bracing for the inevitable travel crush. It's peak season, and for air travelers, fears of delay and cancelations are none too real. So much so that President Bush and Transportation Secretary Mary Peters pre-emptively announced new plans to ease congestion. Barring inclement weather, these measures should keep passengers moving and ease the burden at the nation's busiest airports.

Politicians are like diapers. They both need changing regularly and for the same reason

I think as the times goes by I just become more and more sarcastic when it comes to politics. I used to believe that there was a significant difference in the impact on the economy between a "pro-business" party and an "anti-business" one, but as the results show it is not necessarily the case. Even the most astute business leaders seem to lose their way rapidly when put in a public role. There are certainly exceptions but they are few and far in between... Now even Hank Paulson has lost his way? Mortgage freeze as a solution to the sub prime fiasco problem? Heh? I think we need another diaper here...

Bail out homeowners? Homeowners should pay price for their own errors

BY Eric Bourgeois

A new survey by FreedomWorks, based in Washington, D.C., found that the majority of Americans oppose a mortgage bailout for subprime borrowers. I concur. I don't feel the government should bail out homeowners who made bad decisions regarding the interest rates on their mortgage or whether the homes they were buying were too expensive for them in the first place. The bottom line is that all that they are really losing is a house they can't afford. What is wrong with that? It sounds — well — reasonable.

Bush and Subprime

President Bush unveiled his mortgage relief plan today.  He's decided to freeze the mortgage rates of perhaps hundreds of thousands of speculators and homeowners who might otherwise not be able to make their loan payments.  Some have argued that the plan is fine because it uses no federal funds. Not so, says the Washington Times:

Four Reasons to Oppose the Sub-Prime Mortgage Bail Out

< p class="MsoNormal">Congress seems to be in a rush to bail out speculators in America’s mortgage and real estate markets.  The House has already passed a sweeping new regulatory bill and Senator Hillary Clinton is proposing a $5 billion taxpayer fund to pay individual mortgages.  These proposals come despite the fact that there is little or no economic case for government intervention, and polling shows that a majority of homeowners do not support a bail out.  Further, many of the ideas Congress is currently considering will make the problem worse by reducing available cr

Protect The Kicker from the Politicians in Salem!

Oregonians can expect to receive their “kicker” this year thanks to your efforts to protect this tax refund from the politicians in Salem. But the fight will inevitably continue as those in power come up with myriad ways to spend more of your tax dollars on wasteful government programs. To ensure that citizens and the media are aware of attempts to repeal the kicker, FreedomWorks Oregon has launched Kicker Facts.

Key Vote "No" on the Energy Independence and Security Act

On behalf of our 850,000 FreedomWorks members and supporters nationwide, I write to urge you to vote “No” on the Energy Independence and Security Act now before the House. As it stands, this anti-energy bill strikes at the heart of the American economy. The Democrat-led Congress is proposing a $13 billion tax increase on energy companies, which will only increase the cost of energy for consumers.
