FreedomWorks’ Member of the Month for May 2018: Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.)

FreedomWorks recognizes Rep. Dave Brat (R-Va.) as member of the month for May 2018. He proudly represents Virginia’s 7th Congressional District, located in the Piedmont region of the state to the west of its capital city of Richmond. Before entering the political sphere, Rep. Brat was a professor of economics for nearly two decades at Randolph-Macon College just outside of the district he now represents.

The Goal of Senate Democrats' Public Option Proposal Is the Elimination of Private Health Insurance

Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) recently rolled out a proposal to create another new entitlement program, Medicare Part E. This plan would put the federal government in direct competition with private health insurance companies by creating the so-called “public option.”

The Weekly Fix: The Left Loves Investigations... Just Not Against Them

The fix is in. While progressives consume themselves with the theory that Trump Administration officials may have interfered with the Russia investigation, there is hard evidence that the Obama Justice Department actively tried to obstruct justice. Funny, it doesn’t seem to be generating the same amount of media buzz.

Reuters Paints Misleading Picture on Renewable Fuels, Carl Icahn, and Scott Pruitt

In the era of “fake news” and dwindling public trust in professional journalists, supposedly “mainstream” outlets like Reuters ought to either actually play it straight or just admit their bias. Today, Reuters chose instead to fan the fake news-flames and ran this scintillating headline: “Exclusive: U.S. EPA grants biofuels waiver to billionaire Icahn's oil refinery – sources.”

White House Should Go Big and Bold in Rescissions Requests

Whenever Republicans run for office, they say they’re going to go to work to reduce spending and the size and scope of government. But when they arrive in Washington, to paraphrase Stephen Slivinski, many Republicans stop viewing Washington as a cesspool and treat it more like a hot tub. They get comfortable with Congress because they want to rise in the ranks of the conference, get a coveted committee like Appropriations, and work their way into committee chairmanship or a leadership position.

Support the Penny Plan Balanced Budget, S.Con.Res. 36

On behalf of FreedomWorks activists nationwide, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to support the Penny Plan Balanced Budget, S.Con.Res. 36, introduced by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). The budget would repeal the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, utilize the penny plan for bringing federal spending under control, expand health savings accounts, and implement true budget process reform. Every one of these proposals is desperately needed when our country is staring down a debt-to-GDP ratio in 2028, in which debt held by the public nearly eclipses the size of the economy. This type of spending growth is unsustainable and the Penny Plan Balanced Budget proposes a way to rightsize the fiscal outlook of our country.

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and tell him or her to support the President Trump’s Farm Bill Reforms Act, H.R. 5629, introduced by Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.). The bill would reform and modernize the subsidies the federal government grants as a part of its omnibus Farm Bill.

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote YES on Amendment 63 the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018, H.R. 4, introduced by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), as well as on Amendment 112 to the same legislation, introduced by Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.). Each represent important, common sense steps to rein in the size of the federal government.
