Tell Your Rep: Do Not Vote for Patriot Act Reauthorization!

This year, Congress has a real opportunity to push through substantive NSA reforms. You may have read that the Patriot Act will expire this year but that’s not entirely true. Instead, a few provisions will sunset on June 1st. The most notable is Section 215. This is one of the most controversial provisions of the Patriot Act which has given the NSA the authority to collect call records made by every American, without a warrant or even a suspicion of wrongdoing.

The Content of Character

Historian Carter G. Woodson, the father of black history month, hoped that eventually the need for this designated month would fade as black history became intertwined with American history. Indeed the once honorable intent of recognizing the many great achievements of black people throughout history has devolved into a tool used to patronize people who are falling further into the abyss of apathy and dependency.

Nominee to replace Eric Holder at odds with White House panel, privacy oversight board on NSA spying

There are many big issues on the minds of senators as they consider the nomination of Loretta Lynch to serve as the next attorney general. But among the most concerning is that she has made it very clear that she'll continue the astonishing pattern of overreach to support warrantless spying, and she'll do it under the guise of narratives that have long been debunked.

Obamacare: Time to Change the Batter

If you try to bake a cake, but after looking at a recipe you notice you made multiple mistakes in the batter, the best idea is usually to start over from scratch. If you used three eggs when the recipe called for two, a tablespoon of salt when the recipe called for a teaspoon and a chocolate mix but you find out a guest is allergic to chocolate, it is best to start over. Rather than try to pull an egg out of the batter, pick out the excess salt and sift the chocolate mix out, you should throw out the batter and make a batter that will actually work for the cake. This principle also applies to laws passed by Congress.

Why Obama's Universal Child Care Proposal Won't Work

“Universal” seems to be one of the president’s favorite word these days (narrowly surpassing “let me be clear,” but still trailing “me”). The latest item on his ever-expanding list of things that government should provide for everyone is “Universal Child Care.”

School Choice for Lower-Income Children

Democracy and Power 114: The Power Players Who actually controls the force of government? Politicians and interest groups control the American political process. Special-interest groups – i.e. big business, big unions, education, seniors, and a multitude of others - seek favors: tax breaks, subsidies, exclusive legislation, etc. Special-interest groups give enormous amounts of money to political campaigns in order to receive gigantic benefits in return.

Key Vote YES on the Full Repeal of ObamaCare, H.R. 596

As one of our millions of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and urge him or her to vote YES on H.R. 596, a bill to fully repeal ObamaCare. Introduced by Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-Ala.), it would repeal both the full Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the additional health care provisions that were added in the Health Care Reconciliation Act later, and also instructs House committees to begin producing the patient-centered reforms to replace them.

Obama's Latest Budget Proposal Shows a Weak Grasp on Reality

With another year comes another federal budget season, kicked off by President Obama’s budget proposal. Although his plan was shockingly delivered by the date required by law (for only the second time under Obama), perhaps the president and his team should have taken a few extra days to think it through. The proposal they released today is so shockingly tone-deaf and immune to fiscal realities that it would be comic if we weren’t talking about the actual future solvency of the United States government.

Obama’s $4 Trillion Budget Joke

President Obama released his latest budget, a plan that would spend $4 trillion next year and $50 trillion over the next decade. The plan is packed with goodies from free community college to free preschool to increased infrastructure spending. The budget blows past the spending caps that Obama signed into law in 2011.
