Net Neutrality Rider Hitchhikes with Spending Bill

Net neutrality supporters, along with many Democrats, were left woeful after the Senate Appropriations Committee passed a spending bill that affected the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). Contained within the spending bill was a rider that blocks the FCC from regulating broadband rates that Internet service providers charge their customers.

The Real National Debt Could be $210 Trillion

Recently, the Congressional Budget Office released their Long-Term Budget Outlook for 2015. The official CBO Outlook included some pretty scary figures. The forecast projects the deficit as a percentage of GDP to increase from below 3 percent, to nearly 6 percent in the next twenty-five years. Over the same time frame, the CBO forecasts national debt to increase to over 100 percent of GDP.

Leftist Democrats foolishly urge Obama to expand Social Security

A number of congressional Democrats have signed a letter to President Barack Obama urging him to consider expansion of Social Security, the 80-year-old program designed to provide retirement benefits to Americans. The letter was sent on Monday for the White House Conference on Aging, a once-in-a-decade meeting where at attendees analyze and discuss various policy proposals for seniors and make recommendations.

100 Republicans Join in Voting for More Mandatory Spending

Today, astonishingly, 281 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives – including 100 Republicans – voted to increase the government’s autopilot “mandatory” spending. Tucking even more new spending into the “non-discretionary” category in order to avoid budget constraints is a dangerous precedent – one which no fiscal conservative should ever support.

Key Vote YES on the Brat Amendment to the 21st Century Cures Act

As one of our over 6.9 million FreedomWorks activists nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote YES on the Brat amendment to the 21st Century Cures Act, H.R. 6. This amendment would make new funding for the NIH and Cures Innovation Fund discretionary, instead of the mandatory spending now proposed.

The 21st Century Cures Act will Lead to Huge Spending Growth

The House is getting set to pass the 21st Century Cures Act (H.R. 6). The bill has good intentions. It is trying to do great things by reforming the patent process to streamline the research and production of drugs - getting them to patients faster, which will save lives. Unfortunately, the bill also creates a new spending program with some dubious offsets that make the overall bill difficult for conservatives to support.

How the United States could become Greece unless Congress takes mounting debt seriously

Greek voters, on Sunday, rejected austerity measures crafted by European countries and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The results of the referendum, against which 61 percent voted, could mean the Mediterranean country exits the euro and see a run on banks similar to what it saw last week, or worse.

OCO Funding: A Congressional Slush Fund

Realizing spending was getting out of hand, Congress passed the 2011 Budget Control Act to cap spending on both defense and non-defense discretionary spending. However, Congress being Congress, they have become adept at finding ways to increase spending beyond the caps without technically going above the caps.
