Ohio’s Bankrupt Status Quo

Recently-released campaign finance reports show that public sector unions in Ohio and across the country have spared no expense in their assault against SB5 (Ballot Issue 2), Governor Kasich’s collective bargaining and pension reform law. Unfortunately, the tens of millions of dollars pouring into this November’s election pale in comparison to the spiraling deficits and massive tax hikes facing Ohioans if Issue 2 fails.

Major Victory for School Choice in Pennsylvania

With the passage of SB1 through the state Senate 27-22 Wednesday evening, Pennsylvanians are closer than they’ve ever been to enjoying the benefits of true choice and competition in their school system. For more than 10 months, FreedomWorks and our allies across the state have been fighting to achieve school choice, but the work isn’t finished.

Last Chance for Pennsylvania School Choice in 2011

Since January, FreedomWorks has been fighting for school choice in Pennsylvania, but the next few weeks are the most important yet. The outcome of this fall's legislative session will determine whether Pennsylvania schools serve students and parents or continue catering to unions and bureaucrats. Governor Tom Corbett has proposed an aggressive plan to put parents back in charge of education that FreedomWorks and our allies around the state are proud to support.

Issue Analysis

Monday Morning Football!

So, what can football teach us about education reform?  I’d argue everything.  In a recent Wall Street Journal article former NFL great Fran Tarkenton asks, “what if the NFL played by teachers’ rules?”  Thinking about this hypothetical situation it would be interesting to ponder such a world.  Tarkenton writes:“Imagine the National Football League in an alternate reality.  Each player’s salary is based on how long he’s been in the league.  It’s about tenure, not talent.”

FreedomWorks Fighting for Issues 2 & 3 in Ohio

Pledge to Vote YES on Issues 2 & 3 FreedomWorks and our local tea party allies in Ohio are teaming up to support Governor Kasich's union reform agenda and stop ObamaCare in its tracks this November by urging our members to vote YES on Ballot Issues 2 & 3. When SB 5 was passed last spring, it helped balance Ohio's budget by giving local governments desperately-needed flexibility to renegotiate certain aspects of public sector union contracts. It also introduced a system of merit pay for public employees, while asking them to contribute a small percentage of their income to their own benefit and pension plans.
