We All Belong to the Government

The 2012 election is setting in stark contrast the message of the two major parties. Instead of the usual choice between the lesser of two evils or the less clearly evil of two barely distinguishable choices, the two candidates will stand firmly on the ideology of their respective parties. The leftist rhetoric and agenda of the Democrats is opening up the wide, patriotic center for the Republicans to fill.

Bush and Rhee Show Bipartisan Support for Parent Trigger Laws

Next month, the film Won’t Back Down will hit theaters around America. It is the story of a mother who will not accept that her child will be subjected to an unsatisfactory education simply because she comes from a financially disadvantaged background. It is a look at school reform in America, and will put Parent Trigger Laws front and center ahead of the upcoming election season.

Limiting Government Through the Culture War

The speeches at FreePAC in Dallas July 26 will have a lasting impact on the movement for limited government. Each was inspirational and important, but one stands out among the others for the insight that political victories are a result of cultural change. The only way to limit government is with a limiting culture. You can watch the rest of the amazing FreePAC speeches from the links below:

Pennsylvania Passes School Choice Legislation

After being on the ground and fighting for education reform for nearly 2 years, our FreedomWorks field team in Pennsylvania received some great news on School Choice as of late Saturday evening, June 30th, when HB761 passed both chambers right before the midnight budget deadline.  Governor Tom Corbett signed the bill into law that same night along with an on-time budget.  A school choice voucher program was one of the Governor's top priorities during his campaign in 2010 and we are thrilled to see movement in the right direction.

Montana: Battle Ground 2013

We made 2011 the “year of school choice” and 2012 is shaping up to be no different, but what about 2013?  Many states have finished up their legislative sessions and are gearing up for the 2013 session with education reform looking to take center stage.  One state in particular is shaping up to be ground zero for education reform and that is Montana. According to a recent article in the Flathead Beacon:

Hostile Takeover

FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe has a terrific new book, "Hostile Takeover". Kibbe describes how the explosion of information choices available to Americans has already changed politics and will continue to do so.  Though not organized this way, there are three broad themes in the book, leading to one inescapable conclusion:Top-down journalism is a dying paradigmTop-down, Keynesian economics is a tool of oppressionTop-down politics is no way to run a free countryThe inescapable conclusion: while there is a lot of work ahead of the advocates for individual freedom and limited government, the decentralization of information has the wind at our backs.

Pennsylvania Final Push For School Choice

Yesterday, the FreedomWorks Pennsylvania Field staff, Ana Puig and I, were in Harrisburg pushing HB2468 in the House. This is EITC/EISC program legislation which was introduced last week by Representive Jim Christiana. This legislation will phase in two components of a proposal to enhance school choice options in PA--The successful EITC program and an Educational Scholarship Credit Program (EISC) that is specifically aimed at rescuing students who are attending PA's lowest performing schools.
