RNC Convention, Day 2 Highlights

The themes that were developed by the GOP yesterday, which I blogged about here, were out in full force again today. So far, every single speaker has told a story of one of their family members (or, in many cases, themselves) that emigrated to the United States to find freedom and opportunity. It seems to have gone viral - even my cab driver after the event was a very proud new US citizen who hails originally from Haiti.

Conservatives Finally Signal They're Ready To Go On Offense at RNC Convention

The delays caused by Hurricane Isaac at the RNC Convention in Tampa, and the subsequent rush of speakers during two days' worth of convention sessions squeezed into a single day, were emblematic of the Romney campaign strategy as a whole. For the past few months, it's been clear that Romney would secure enough delegate votes to secure the election, and the nation has been waiting for the campaign to go on offense against the failed policies and deliberate expansion of government by the Obama administration.

Welfare: Obama, Sebelius and Subsidiarity

Mickey Kaus, of the Daily Caller, is an expert on welfare and understands how the Obama Administration has intentionally weakened the work requirement of the 1996 welfare reform act.  The 1996 act mandated a “work first” approach, which focused on finding employment above everything else.  Health and Human Services czar, Kathleen Sebelius, has intentionally and unilaterally issued a directive which would allow HHS to waive a “work first” requirement.  As Kaus

A Follow Up On My Debate With My Liberal Relative

Yesterday, I blogged about the opportunity my liberal relative gave me to explain why those on public assistance should vote for conservatives in the 2012 election (you can see the post here). As you might imagine, this Facebook argument raged on (respectfully so, I must say) for most of the day and deep into the night.A couple of points came up in the discussion that I thought would be instructive to address.

Limiting Government Through the Culture War

The speeches at FreePAC in Dallas July 26 will have a lasting impact on the movement for limited government. Each was inspirational and important, but one stands out among the others for the insight that political victories are a result of cultural change. The only way to limit government is with a limiting culture. You can watch the rest of the amazing FreePAC speeches from the links below:

Why We Fight For Freedom And Liberty For All, Not Just For Conservatives

I was recently challenged to a Facebook debate with the following question by a liberal relative:

The Emporer Has No Clothes - Obama's Marxist Ideology Revealed Again

I'm not one who's prone to wild hyperbole that anyone not on the right side of the political spectrum is some pinko commie. But when someone is using nakedly Marxist rhetoric, I don't think I'm telling tales out of school to label that person as a Marxist. In fact, it's especially important to do so when it comes from our President.Over the past two days, a couple of whoppers have emanated from Barack Obama.

Emergency Obamacare Conference Call: WE NEED YOU TO CALL IN!

It’s tragically ironic that the ruling on the President’s healthcare takeover came down the way it did and so close to the day when we as a nation are supposed to celebrate our independence. This bill all but eliminates our right to be free and independent people, shackling every one of us to government programs.

The Hunger Champion Awards: Race to Waste

Last year, Ashe County, South Carolina received national recognition from the US Department of Agriculture for their work involving the Department of Social Services. However this attention only highlights the wasteful spending of government. Through the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), a USDA agency, the Hunger Champion awards are handed out annually to local government agencies for increasing participation in food stamps or Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP).
