As I noted back in March, Americans are more dependent on the federal government than ever before:For the first time since the Great Depression, Americans are receiving more money in government aid than they are paying in taxes.Well, according to analysis found in this morning's http://www.usatoday.com/?loc=interstitialskip

A Sign of Things to Come?

Remember when Massachusetts overhauled its health care system? It wasn't too long ago. Two thousand and six (AD) to be precise.Well, the utopian project is now forcing its passengers to brace for impact as it experiences potentially terminal turbulence due to out of control costs associated with the massive entitlement program.

Why Imminent Minimum Wage Hike Will Boost Unemployment And Depress Consumption

Politicians are proving Milton Friedman’s observation that “the government solution to a problem is usually as bad as the problem,” true once again (the Milton Friedman video below complements this blog post aptly). This time they are raising the federal minimum wage from $6.55 to $7.25 on July 24. This will be the third and final boost in a three-step plan by the federal government, based on legislation passed two years ago.

Key Vote YES on the Blumenauer/Ryan Farm Program Amendment

On behalf of nearly 850,000 FreedomWorks members nationwide, I write to urge you to VOTE YES on the Blumenauer/Ryan Farm Program amendment to H.R. 2419, the FY08 Farm Bill. The amendment would create annual limits to farm commodity payments and program benefits. The amendment is a step in the right direction: It increases fiscal discipline and reduces agricultural subsidies while promoting market competition. Specifically, the amendment would create a $40,000 limit on direct payments and overall would limit all farm commodity program payments and benefits to $250,000 per year.

Breaking the Welfare Chains

In 1996, after seeing federal welfare policy fail to help the poor for 60 years, our leaders in Washington decided it was time to try something new. They boldly passed a welfare reform law that ended the legal entitlement to cash handouts, required many to work in order to receive money, and gave states the flexibility to design their own programs.
