Sign the Petition: No Lame Duck!

Rumors are swirling in Washington, D.C. about a potential "Lame Duck" session that could be held right after the November elections and before the new Congress is sworn-in. If liberals are thrown out of power in Congress this election cycle, the pressure will be that much greater and Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi will pull out all the stops as a last gasp to enact their socialist agenda. Specifically, the far left will be doing whatever they can to: 1. Pass the Cap and Trade Energy Tax Hike! 2. Slap American Taxpayers with another "Stimulus" Bailout Scheme!

Obama's middle finger has a name: Craig Becker

On Saturday, among Barack Obama’s 15 “recess appointees” was SEIU attorney Craig Becker to a seat on the National Labor Relations Board. From that spot, Becker is likely to try to institute “Card Check” (or worse) through administrative fiat since it appears unable to pass Congress. Becker is as radical as anybody in (or formerly in) the Obama Administration. He’s as radical as the overtly socialist Carol Browner and the overtly communist Van Jones.

Card Check: "I'm not dead yet"

At least according to AFL-CIO President Richard Tumka, who is predicting card check will pass this year.  Trumka said that lawmakers would pass the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) as well as healthcare reform this year, despite Republicans having picked up enough votes in the Senate to sustain a filibuster. "I think we'll get health care done and I think we'll get labor law reform done before the year's up," Trumka said during an appearance on CNN.

On Second Thought, Maybe the U.S. Should Be More Like Europe

The Wall Street Journal reports this morning that the European Union and the United States have again chosen different paths regarding free trade, this time with South Korea. However, for once it’s old Europe that wants to boost economic output by lowering barriers. Meanwhile, in the formerly free market U.S., a Congress beholden to Big Labor throws up roadblocks.

Unions and Free Market Activists Find Common Cause on Health Care, For Now

President Obama has stepped up his rhetoric against the health care system, but fiscal deficiencies in his plan for a government take over have become increasingly apparent in recent weeks. Now, some on Capitol Hill are toying with the idea of taxing employee health benefits to subsidize the cost of government-provided care. But, as Americans learned during the collapse of GM, many union labor agreements provide extremely generous benefit packages to workers who are unlikely to support any proposal that might put their compensation at risk.

Michael Bennet can't decide: Unions or our nation?

Observers of Colorado Senator Michael Bennet have been wondering aloud how he could in 25 minutes make a decision to support Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor but still be unable after a few months of opportunity to consider the issue to take a position on “card check”, the Democratic plan to eliminate the requirement for a secret ballot to unionize a company and to force binding arbitration of contracts between companies and their unionized employees. As reports of a potential “compromise” come out, the positions of on-the-fence Democrats becomes increasingly important. And Michael Bennet is the poster child for “on the fence.”

California - Our Canary in a Coal Mine

It's common knowledge that California is going broke.  So broke they're asking for TARP money, a program whose beneficiaries can't get out of fast enough.  It was bad enough when they took  my money to give to banks and companies that made bad decisions - but naysayers were explained away with words about "systemic risk" and "too big to fail."  With a GDP among the top ten in the world (were it an independent country), it's hard to see how we won't see those same platitudes trotted out again.
