Restoring Notre Dame

BY Adam Brandon

Tragedy has befallen Notre Dame de Paris this week, but we can be confident that the 13th-century Gothic Cathedral will rise again from the ashes. The French government estimates that it will cost $505 million to rebuild the interior and roof. Wealthy Europeans such as Francois Henri Pinault, owner of Gucci and Saint Laurent, and Bernard Arnault, owner of Louis Vuitton’s parent company, among others have pledged close to $1 billion combined as of Tuesday. The Walt Disney Co. has even promised to donate $5 million toward the cathedral’s restoration as well.

The Biggest College Scandal of All

BY Stephen Moore

The seething anger Americans feel over the college admission scandal with wealthy and well-connected families using money, influence and cheating to bump their kids up in line so they get accepted into elite schools is well justified. Yet this scheme is small potatoes compared to the real scandal on college campuses from coast to coast. That scam is how much universities are charging families once they do get in.

Fortnite, Apex Legends, and PUBG Mock the Millennial/Socialist Narrative

BY Yates Wilburn

It feels like every single day, we hear from an endless wave of analysts, journalists, pollsters, politicians, and seemingly every family member over the age of 40 that Millennials expect everything to be handed to them. We’re told that little league participation trophies have led young Americans to completely forget the meaning and importance of competition in all things, particularly when it comes to economics and society. They tell us that Millennials are hopelessly lost to the banner of socialism given their alleged disdain for the competitive nature of the free market.

Millennials Get Free Markets, But Don't Buy How Politicians Preach Them

BY Yates Wilburn

Right now, countless politicians, scholars, activists, and writers on the right and left are waging a battle for the hearts and minds of American millennials. They often use highbrow language more commonly heard in an economics class than a Twitter feed in a desperate bid to convince my generation that they’re right, and the “other team” is wrong. So far, it could be argued the only Millennials that politicos on either side of the socioeconomic divide have been able to reach are the ones that are already convinced of their respective positions. They’ve only reached those people that already share their worldview, and are simply looking for clever-sounding zingers with which to bludgeon their political opponents.

March Freedom Artist: Frank Norton

I first met Mr. Frank Norton at a Folk art festival in Commerce, Georgia in 2014. He walked into my booth at the end of the last day of the festival and it wasn't long before we were energetically discussing American symbolism in art. Mr. Norton collects regional folk art and paintings of flags. At the time, I did not realize he is himself a painter.

How The Good Guys Win

History is filled with pitfalls and terrible occurrences. For most of human history, the early world consisted of nothing but war, theft, slavery, and obedience to a state which ruled through fear. While those of us living in the US live so comfortably, that not even kings from a different era could compare to even our lowest standard of living, there are many people throughout the world that still live in an environment where something is absent- liberty.

February Freedom Artist: Tanya Slate

I have to admit, I'm a little biased in favor of Tanya's mixed media work. She stands out among our many talented artists at Liberatchik for having developed an edgy, contemporary style that remains good art. In addition, much of her work conveys a strong political or philosophical message without being trite or jaded. One of the biggest challenges a conservative or libertarian artist can face is successfully injecting ideas into their work. Tanya nails it!

January Freedom Artist: Ashley Norfleet

Illustrators are unique among visual artists in their use of storytelling to portray a complex ideology or concept. Many, like our January Artist, utilize quotes and phrases in their art to accentuate finer concepts or highlight specific ideas they want to express to the viewer. Some use a progression of imagery, complex compositions that move the viewer from one idea to the next, or single concepts to drive home a particular concept. A fellow SCAD graduate, Ashley is an artist whose work I have seen progress over nearly two decades. Her style is very painterly and ephemeral. One could as easily imagine her illustrations decorating the pages of a fine children's book as the sparse walls of an upscale gallery.

December Freedom Artist: Rich Gibbs

Sometimes, artists use their art to say things people don’t want to hear. Sometimes, artists push the envelope of political correctness. Sometimes, artists go too far. That is exactly the kind speech meant to be protected under the first amendment.
