SoloPower, Portland's Very Own Solyndra Style Success Story

Portland, Oregon likes to fancy itself as ahead of the curve, and more educated than your average city. We're routinely listed as among the most wired cities in the nation, and typically have a more educated workforce than most. Our biggest mission, it seems, is to become the greenest city imaginable. But our government leaves a lot to be desired, with liberal pipe dreams dominating over such considerations as reality and common sense.

Fracking: Drilling Past The Myths

It’s probably safe to say that most Americans are unaware of what the term “fracking” means.  If you’ve heard of it, the details can be hard to pin down due to the controversy surrounding the method of gas extraction.  With mainstream movies like

Corporate Welfare in the Federal Tax System

Frequently, entitlement reform is discussed among policymakers as a way to reduce government spending, but the entitlement reform discussed often concerns individual entitlements, not those directed toward corporations. A recent examination of the federal tax code by the Cato Institute’s Tad DeHaven found that each year corporate welfare in the tax code cost taxpayers nearly $100 billion.

Please, Mr. President: Don’t Let Politics Kill the Pipeline

Last week, Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman approved a reroute of the oft-disputed Keystone XL pipeline. Previously, the pipeline was slated to cross not only the Nebraska Sandhills but the Ogallala aquifer as well, two areas that had environmentalist groups ready for war.  The resultant pressure caused Gov. Heineman to withdraw his support for the pipeline as planned, and President Obama denied the required Presidential Permit in January 2012.

Keystone Round 2: Will Obama Blink?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but we're still a nation desperately in need of jobs and revenue, right?A new study commissioned by supporters of the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline says Nebraska could reap close to $2 billion in economic benefits if the project were built.

Natural Gas Vehicles- Clean, Domestic, and Under Attack

Natural gas is a clean, abundant, domestic natural resource, so it only makes sense that Americans should be turning to this as an alternative to oil and gasoline. Although natural gas vehicles are being manufactured, they are not catching on like other alternative fuels such as electric. Could this be because the government is once again playing favorites against domestic resources?

Matt Damon's Promised Land Delivers ... Hypocrisy and Junk Science

Hollywood's mega-liberal darling, Matt Damon, is back at it again in his latest film Promised Land, delivering a theatrical effort that is so far-left, providing little more than junk science platitudes and a radical environmental agenda, that even his anti-fracking cohorts aren't singing its praises. In other words, Promised Land delivers about what one could expect from today's Hollywood elite.

Mass Transit Is Not Green Transportation

Here in Portland, Oregon, we've been something of a test lab for mass transit. Our city council, long ago (starting under then Mayor Neil Goldschmidt), threw itself wide open to federal planning experts who wished to use Portland as the template for solutions to the energy crisis of the 70s. That crisis, of course, morphed into the global warming crisis, but the goals were the same - to convince ordinary Americans that their future, and the future of all mankind, came via a trip by bus or train, not in their own car.

The Regulatory Landscape in America - A Morass Of Red Tape Designed To Create A Command Economy

Yesterday, I reported on the volume of regulations headed our way in 2013 that rivals Darth Vader's Galactic Empire for sheer size, as well as oppressiveness. Today, The Heritage Foundation is out with its Top 10 Regulations of 2012:
