Herman Cain's "999 Plan": The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

So what about Herman Cain's 999 tax plan? Turns out it has some very good aspects -- and some others, not so good. I'd give it two rousing cheers and one bronx cheer. The plan is called "9, 9, 9" because it would replace today's complicated and economically burdensome federal tax code with a simple, three-part system, consisting of a 9% flat tax on individuals, a 9% flat tax on businesses, and a 9% national retail sales tax.* That's it.**

Tell your Representatives to Cosponsor the Capital Gains Inflation Relief Act of 2011

Dear FreedomWorks member, As one of our million-plus FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to cosponsor H.R. 2945, the Capital Gains Inflation Relief Act of 2011. Introduced by Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL), the bill would index the capital gains tax to inflation. By eliminating a tax on inflation, millions of Americans would have more money in their pocket. The Capital Gains Inflation Relief Act would stimulate economic growth and job creation.

Flat Tax vs. Fair Tax

The current U.S. tax system is huge convoluted mess. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has six federal income tax brackets ranging from 10 to 35 percent. Our so-called progressive tax system punishes the most productive members of society with a higher tax rate. The current tax system is riddled with loopholes and biases that hurt individuals who save money for the future. Not only does our tax code treat citizens differently but it is hopelessly complicated.

Washington’s Proposed Income Tax Will Stifle Economic Growth

Washington State is often listed as one of the best places to live, retire and open a business. Home to some of the fastest-growing industries in the nation, Washington was ranked by Forbes as the second best state for businesses in 2009. Furthermore, Washington was recently featured on U.S News and Reports’ list of the five best states to build a nest egg. But all that could change soon.

Tax Hikes on the Rich Won't Work

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) have made it clear that they will strive to raise taxes on all families making over $250,000 annually on January 1st. According to Nancy Pelosi, “I see no justification for giving a tax break…for the wealthiest people in America…the tax cuts at the high end have increased the deficit enormously.”
