The Left Has No Competing Tax Vision, and That's Too Bad

On March 30, 1981, the Times of London published a letter signed by 364 prominent economists that predicted disaster for England under Margaret Thatcher’s economic policies. Reality has a way of removing the clothes of the so-called experts in rather embarrassing fashion.

Key Vote YES on FY 2018 Budget Resolution, H.Con.Res. 71

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to vote YES on the FY 2018 budget resolution, H.Con.Res. 71. The budget resolution contains reconciliation instructions that allow the House Ways and Means Committee to produce legislation for fundamental tax reform.

It's Crunch Time in the Senate on the Tax Reform Budget Resolution

Coming off a week-long recess and without any significant legislative victories this year, the pressure is on the Senate this week to pass the FY 2018 budget resolution, S.Con.Res. 25, which provides reconciliation instructions for fundamental tax reform. The House passed its own version of the FY 2018 budget, H.Con.Res. 71, on October 5 by a vote of 219 to 206.

Senate, Having Done Virtually Nothing All Year, Is On Vacation Again

It's October, roughly 10 months into the 115th Congress. Apart from the confirmation of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, as well as the confirmations of administration posts, what exactly has the Senate done this year?

State and Local Tax Deduction To End Under New GOP Tax Framework

Americans like their tax deductions, but mainly because the tax rate to begin with is too high. This same principle holds for the state and local tax (SALT) deduction currently part of the 74,000+ page federal tax code. This deduction seems like a good idea, but Americans would be much better off with this deduction eliminated, and instead given real tax breaks across the board. Fortunately, the GOP tax reform framework released at the beginning of the month does just this.

FreedomWorks President: Republican Tax Reform Framework Boosts Middle Class

For the first time in more than 30 years, Congress has an opportunity to fundamentally reform America’s tax code. Just as important in this generational opportunity is letting the middle class keep more of their paychecks and boosting the ability of small businesses to prosper.

The Tax Code Should Not Subsidize High Tax Burdens in Blue States

The discussion inside Congress to eliminate the state and local tax deduction is a welcome path to sustainable tax reform that doesn’t fuel deficits. Its repeal would provide breathing room for pro-growth reforms like lower corporate tax rates, fewer income brackets, and overall simplicity.

The Unified Tax Reform Framework Is a Path for Growth

On Wednesday, the "Bix Six" -- Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, National Economic Council Director Gary Cohn, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), Ways and Means Chairman Kevin Brady (R-Texas), Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), and Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) -- unveiled a unified framework for fundamental tax reform. There are still many details that need to be provided, but the framework overhauls and simplifies the tax code, promoting economic growth, job creation, and fairness.
