Kyoto Style Cap-and-Trade for the United States?

January 27, 2003 The Honorable George W. Bush The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500 Dear Mr. President: We are writing to reiterate our concerns about the Administration’s plan to award regulatory offsets ("transferable credits") to companies that reduce emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases.

Global Warming’s Uncertain Future

A recent report by the Environmental Protection Agency includes a notable departure from the last six years. The report, which provides an assessment of various pollutants, does not include any discussion of global warming, or global climate change. According to the New York Times, many environmentalists attribute the change to the administration’s close ties to industry, which has been opposed to moving forward with global warming policies, such as the Kyoto Protocol, which would force nations to make significant cutbacks in the use of fossil fuels.

Yet Another Attack on the Economy

Copley News Service, 03/06/2001 As if we haven't already had enough bad economic news, now come reports of another attack on the economy from within the Bush administration. Even as President George W. Bush stumps for his tax rate reductions, he's facing a rear-guard assault on his economic program by members of his own Cabinet: massive hikes in energy costs masquerading as environmental safeguards.
