Ten Things Everyone Should Read About Health Care

Ben Domenech, editor of the indispensable morning newsletter, The Transom, has published an excellent "top ten" list, which we are happy to reprint with his permission.  + + +

Health Reform in One Lesson

I've been following the national health care reform debate for nearly 20 years, and you know what? It turns out to be very simple. Cut through all the bureaucratic jargon and mind-numbing acronyms, and there are only two basic ideas in health policy: HMOs and HSAs. That's it.

Mitt Romney - 'It won't be as bad'

If Barack Obama's campaign slogan is "It could have been worse," Mitt Romney's seems to be "It won't be as bad." Mitt Romney's comment on Meet the Press about maintaining 'guaranteed issue' in his 'repeal and replace' health plan means there will be no repealing and far less replacing.

Has Mitt Gone Soft on Full Repeal?

Is Mitt Romney weaseling out on us? Over the weekend, the former Massachusetts governor offered some comments on ObamaCare that are causing some folks to question how strongly the GOP presidential nominee remains committed to full repeal of the president's unpopular health care law.

Chicago Teachers Want More Than There Is

The Chicago Teachers Union went on strike Sunday night, citing such issues as compensation, health benefits, and job security. Chicago is out of money, the State of Illinois is even more out of money, and in tough economic times, no one has job security.

Issue Analysis

We All Belong to the Government

The 2012 election is setting in stark contrast the message of the two major parties. Instead of the usual choice between the lesser of two evils or the less clearly evil of two barely distinguishable choices, the two candidates will stand firmly on the ideology of their respective parties. The leftist rhetoric and agenda of the Democrats is opening up the wide, patriotic center for the Republicans to fill.

Interview: Lt. Col. Allen West (R-FL)

Allen West dropped by the Blogger Hangout at the RNC Convention on August 30, and was very gracious with his time. On his legislative agenda for 2013, he discussed tax reform and regulatory reform as a means to unleash small business success. He took a quick little shot at Harry Reid too, challenging him to pass the job creating legislation that has been blocked from a full vote at the Senate. I asked him about Sen. McCain's Convention remarks about the current state of the Middle East.

RNC Convention, Day 2 Highlights

The themes that were developed by the GOP yesterday, which I blogged about here, were out in full force again today. So far, every single speaker has told a story of one of their family members (or, in many cases, themselves) that emigrated to the United States to find freedom and opportunity. It seems to have gone viral - even my cab driver after the event was a very proud new US citizen who hails originally from Haiti.

Conservatives Finally Signal They're Ready To Go On Offense at RNC Convention

The delays caused by Hurricane Isaac at the RNC Convention in Tampa, and the subsequent rush of speakers during two days' worth of convention sessions squeezed into a single day, were emblematic of the Romney campaign strategy as a whole. For the past few months, it's been clear that Romney would secure enough delegate votes to secure the election, and the nation has been waiting for the campaign to go on offense against the failed policies and deliberate expansion of government by the Obama administration.

A True Lack of “Economic Patriotism” in the White House

Ex-Ohio governor and current co-chairman of President Obama’s re-election campaign, Ted Strickland, called out Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s “economic patriotism” yesterday.  In an interview with the Youngstown Vindicator, located in the perpetually crucial swing state of Ohio, Strickland cited Romney’s overseas investments as an example of this lack of patriotism.
