And God Made a “Taxpayer Subsidized” Farmer

Americans involved in agriculture are no longer the tenant farmers and sharecroppers of days past. I’ve yet to hear of a “disaster harvest” which forces the sale of the family cow. Banks are not repossessing their land, and the range wars between farmers and ranchers have long ended.

Key Vote NO on Renewing the Generalized System of Preferences and Trade Adjustment Assistance

Dear FreedomWorks member, As one of our million-plus FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote NO on H.R. 2832, a bill to extend the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP). Introduced by Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), the bill picks favorites among trading partners and disrupts the price system. The biggest problem is that a Senate amendment that would extend Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) at the current, higher post-stimulus levels is attached to the bill. It is simply not a free trade bill.

Congressman Barton Goes 'All In' for Online Gambling

Last week, Congressman Joe Barton (R-TX) introduced a bipartisan bill that would end the federal online gambling ban.  The Internet Gambling Prohibition, Poker Consumer Protection, and Strengthening UIGEA Act of 2011 has nine original cosponsors from both sides of the aisle, including Congressman Ron Paul (R-TX) and Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA), who have advocated for similar legislation in the past.

On Second Thought, Maybe the U.S. Should Be More Like Europe

The Wall Street Journal reports this morning that the European Union and the United States have again chosen different paths regarding free trade, this time with South Korea. However, for once it’s old Europe that wants to boost economic output by lowering barriers. Meanwhile, in the formerly free market U.S., a Congress beholden to Big Labor throws up roadblocks.
