The Unreasonable Opposition to Justice Reform in the Senate

Recently, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) gave a speech at the Hudson Institute in Washington, in which he offered his case against the justice reform effort in Congress led by conservatives like Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), and Rep. Raul Labrador (R-Idaho). Apparently unaware of the efforts of more than 30 states, including several traditionally Republican states, Cotton ridiculously labeled the federal push as "criminal leniency."

Liberty Kitty Travels the Country to Shed Light on Over-Criminalization and Regulation

Liberty Kitty has learned the hard way that overcriminalization and excessive regulation ruins lives and hurts the economy. She was prevented from grooming neighborhood kittens because she did not have the time or money it would take to become licensed, and she was incarcerated for 7 cat years under a mandatory minimum sentencing law for a non-violent crime.

Due Process Act Will Protect Innocent People from Government Overreach

Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) introduced legislation Wednesday that would reform federal civil asset forfeiture laws, offering key protections to innocent people whose property is seized by the government. The Deterring Undue Enforcement by Protecting Rights of Citizens from Excessive Searches and Seizures Act (H.R. 5283), or Due Process Act, is the most significant, if not first, major reform of federal forfeiture laws since 2000, when Congress passed the Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform Act.

Congress' New Bills Show How Conservatives Are Still Tough on Crime

BY Adam Brandon and Grover Norquist

Recently, a few notable organizations have added their voices in support of criminal justice reform efforts in the Senate. The International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Major County Sheriffs' Association, Concerned Veterans of America and the National District Attorneys Association — none of which are soft on crime — agree: The Senate's Sentencing Reform and Corrections Act isn't either.
