How Free Is Your State?

Now that America is guaranteed another three-and-a-half years of liberal leadership in the White House, individuals and businesses are eager to reduce the burden of government any way they can.

NY Soda Ban Gets The Shaft...Errrr...Straw

Months ago, New York's Mayor Bloomberg put into action a Very Serious Plan designed to subvert New York City's life-draining, obesity-encouraging, self-immolating commitment to drinking soda out of containers designed to hold more than 16 ounces of liquid. As of yesterday, the city had its health department trained and ready to perform surprise sting operations on unsuspecting food service establishments across Manhattan as they began their nanny-state crackdown on New York's most pressing danger: dastardly sugary beverages.

Mass Transit Is Not Green Transportation

Here in Portland, Oregon, we've been something of a test lab for mass transit. Our city council, long ago (starting under then Mayor Neil Goldschmidt), threw itself wide open to federal planning experts who wished to use Portland as the template for solutions to the energy crisis of the 70s. That crisis, of course, morphed into the global warming crisis, but the goals were the same - to convince ordinary Americans that their future, and the future of all mankind, came via a trip by bus or train, not in their own car.

To Change our Politics, We Must Change the Culture

Some people think they have an ownership share in the product of my labor merely because we breathe the same air. I always thought that statement was a metaphorical straw man, a turn of phrase useful only for mocking the lazy. I was wrong.

We All Belong to the Government

The 2012 election is setting in stark contrast the message of the two major parties. Instead of the usual choice between the lesser of two evils or the less clearly evil of two barely distinguishable choices, the two candidates will stand firmly on the ideology of their respective parties. The leftist rhetoric and agenda of the Democrats is opening up the wide, patriotic center for the Republicans to fill.

Limiting Government Through the Culture War

The speeches at FreePAC in Dallas July 26 will have a lasting impact on the movement for limited government. Each was inspirational and important, but one stands out among the others for the insight that political victories are a result of cultural change. The only way to limit government is with a limiting culture. You can watch the rest of the amazing FreePAC speeches from the links below:

Hate Chicken

Ever since the Chick-fil-A President Cathy voiced his opinion in favor of the tradional view of marriage, politicians have been stumbling over themselves to threaten to discriminate against the Chick-fil-A company on the basis of the free expression of one of its executives.

Obama: Clueless and Wrong

President Obama granted an interview with CBS News in which he not only mischaracterized basic economic principles, but did so using his usual logical fallacies. After making these basic errors, he went on to question his opponent's ability even to think about the issues Mr. Obama had just shown himself unable to comprehend.
