FreedomWorks Defeats North Carolina Smoking Ban in Victory for Property Rights

In a victory for advocates of property rights in North Carolina, H259, the bill that would “Prohibit Smoking in Public and Work Places” was defeated yesterday at the state House in Raleigh. By a six vote margin, H259, “Prohibit Smoking in Public and Work Places,” failed on its second reading. Nineteen Democrats voted against the proposal and eight Republicans supported it.

North Carolina FreedomWorks Members Hold Property Rights Forum

Asheville, North Carolina. Buncombe County activist Don Yelton held a Property Rights Forum on April 20, 2007.  Over 75 residents turned out to hear from their locally elected officals on how government is taking their property rights away.  Don asked the group to show up at a County Commissioners meeting and ask them to give the citizens the right to vote on county wide zoning.

FreedomWorks Holds Property Rights Protest in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA.  FreedomWorks members gathered together to protest in favor of private property rights and against forced annexation.  Members gave out bumper stickers on Tuesday, they are starting  to sprout like the spring flowers.  The shirt stickers came Wednesday afternoon so we will use them at the next meeting. This piece originally appeared in the Kernersville News. The recent editorial entitled “An emotional debate” was certainly titled appropriately. Since liberal arguments are always based on emotion and feelings rather than sound and reasoned logic. The editorial refers to bills being introduced by Rep. Larry Brown and Sen. Fred Smith to protect private property rights.

2006 has been a productive year for FreedomWorks Washington. Some of our highlights include: A FreedomWorks Day at the Capitol in Olympia. Activists participated in a tour of the newly renovated capitol, listened to policy briefings from some of the state’s premier think tanks, and had the opportunity to personally lobby their legislators for lower taxes and less government.

WASHINGTON — Yesterday, a letter signed by seventy-five organizations and policy leaders from across the country was sent to Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) requesting that the Senate advance legislation upon return in November to limit the ability of states and localities to abuse eminent domain.
