Key Vote NO on the Paycheck Fairness Act, S. 2199

As one of our over 6.6 million FreedomWorks activists nationwide, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to vote NO on the so-called “paycheck fairness act”. Sponsored by Senator Barbara Mikulski, this bill is a piece of political theatre which could have serious economic impact for no appreciable gain.

Key Vote YES on Stopping the EPA's Latest Property Rights Overreach

As one of our over 6.6 million FreedomWorks activists nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote YES on the Waters of the United States Regulatory Overreach Act, H.R. 5078. Regulations Are Stifling Economic Growth

As the size and scope of government have expanded, regulators have come to play a much larger role in our day-to-day lives. The advent of the administrative state has created a web of regulations covering everything from design standards for electric appliances to new rules that require hotels and restaurants to accommodate miniature horses as service animals. All too often, common sense is being replaced with exacting statutes and regulations that dictate very specific forms of compliance.

The War on Airbnb

The web startup Airbnb is finding itself in hot water lately. A peer-to-peer service that matches renters with rentiers, the company is under attack by entrenched lodging businesses such as hotels. It’s easy to see why. The company, which is fairly decentralized, breaks through the thicket of established chains. It matches real people with real people, each seeking to mutually profit from one another. As Jeffrey Tucker writes, Airbnb allows “regular people to cut through stultifying regulations and make better lives for themselves.” It breaks a sacred rule of economics: anything that bypasses the hold of legacy businesses is bound to garner unwanted interference.

America, The Land of Opportunity….Costs

Americans are suckers for a clever slogan, whether it is Burger King’s “Have it your way” or Walmart’s “Save Money, Live Better.” Americans for generations have bought into these slogans. Even America herself has a slogan advertising, at home and around the world, “The American Dream, the land of opportunity.” Most people are aware of America’s slogan; and many were raised by generations that heartily agreed with its promise. However, as we stand as a nation in 2014, the brand is in question.

Why is Burger King Moving to Canada?

What happens when people and business flee the government regulations that burden them? In a somewhat shocking recent announcement, classic American company Burger King has said that they plan to move their corporate headquarters to Canada in order to escape the United States’ punitive corporate taxes, the highest such tax rates in the world.

The Coming Lame Duck is a No-Win for Freedom

Budget negotiations have failed and Speaker Boehner is likely to opt for a lame duck solution. Little good can come from this for the cause of liberty.

The IRS' Lost Email Contagion

Precedent is a powerful thing. Once something has been established as acceptable behavior, there will inevitably be a flood of eager followers. That is why trailblazers get all the credit. The brave souls who test the waters, who first go where no one else dares, who push the envelope and set the stage for the rest of us. In many walks of life, such as science, exploration, and philosophy, these people are heroes, pushing mankind forward even when it is dangerous to do so. In politics, however, the trailblazer all too often covers territory that would have been better left unexplored.

Keep the EPA's Hands off Your Wages

UPDATE: FreedomWorks activists sent over 4,000 messages to the EPA to stop the proposed rule that would have given the agency the power to garnish the wages of private citizens. A notice published in the Federal Register formally withdrew the rule. The EPA had previously stated that they would withdraw the rule if adverse comments were received by August 1.

Seattle Citizens Push Back on Minimum Wage

The minimum wage has been a major plank in the Democratic platform for years, with lawmakers continually pushing for increases, both at the state and federal level. Earlier this year, President Obama made a hard push for an increase in the federal minimum wage from it’s current level of $7.25 an hour to $10.10 an hour, backed by Harry Reid and a majority of Democrats in the Senate.
