The sheer convenience of online shopping is breathtaking, but that very convenience has made sites like Amazon.com as many enemies as they have friends. The retail lobby, infuriated by the discovery of a better business model, have spent years seeking a government solution to their declining sales.

New Regulation on Retirement Investments Means Less Choice for Your IRA and 401k

The Obama administration has proven exceptionally talented in making law without Congress, using the vast alphabet soup of agencies such as the EPA, the IRS, the FCC, and the NLRB to drastically increase the government’s reach into our lives. Among all of the massively damaging regulations coming out of these agencies is a little-noticed rule from the Department of Labor that could drastically affect millions of Americans’ choice in IRA and 401K investments.

New Bill to Limit the Number of Uber Drivers in NYC

Over this Independence Day weekend, New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito stated that proposed legislation that would limit the number of app-based driving services (such as Uber and Lyft) was motivated purely by the need to control "traffic congestion, pollution and labor standards," not because of the falling value of taxi cab medallions. In an interview between Ms. Viverito and radio program host Brian Lehrer:

Louisiana Parish Could Damage Uber's Business Model

Uber, the app-based ridesharing service based in San Francisco, has caused a stir in a local New Orleans suburb, where Attorney Deborah Foshee began investigating as to whether or not the taxi service can legally operate its vehicles in Jefferson Parish. According to a recent Associated Press article:

How California Regulation Will Destroy Uber’s Business Model

Recently the state of California struck a major blow to the ride-sharing industry, primarily the popular app-based taxi service, Uber. President Obama: Stay out of Entrepreneurship

As Ronald Reagan famously said, “the nine most terrifying words in the English language are ‘I'm from the government, and I'm here to help.’” While champions of limited government are in favor of entrepreneurship, do we really want the federal government to decide on which companies to invest in? After President Obama’s announcement that the White House plans to invest in entrepreneurs in the United States and abroad, what should we expect? The Spark Global Entrepreneurship coalition plans to raise $1 billion in private funding for entrepreneurs in the United States and abroad by 2017. At face value, this may seem like a fine idea – but this is actually very bad news.
