The Death Knell of Tenure

One of the greatest barriers to education reform, and the symbol of public sector intransigence, is teacher tenure. These statutes make it nearly impossible and incredibly expensive to fire poorly performing teachers. But in a landmark victory for education reform, a California judge ruled that teacher tenure and a slew of other job protection clauses are unconstitutional and should not be enforced by school districts.

The IRS Thinks We’re All Idiots

The government seems to have a data problem. While the NSA has apparently been storing massive amounts of data on innocent Americans deep within its sinister archives, the IRS and the US Census Bureau just can’t seem to keep track of anything. What a difference an acronym makes.

The FDA Is Trying to Ruin the Mobile App Market

In most basic economics textbooks, which, for all their faults, mostly recognize the virtue of free markets, the only rationale given for government intervention in the economy is a so-called “market failure,” a situation where no efficient outcome can be reached purely through voluntary exchange.

Keep the Digital Wild West Wild

UPDATE 6-5-2014: In their continuing efforts to ruin all that is good and decent in the world, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles has sent cease and desist letters to two car service companies, Uber and Lyft, operated through mobile apps. While these services provide safe, efficient, and affordable options for people to get from point A to point B, the DMV apparently thinks it is more important to protect the oligopolies of cab companies, not to mention their own revenues, than to allow consumers to buy services they overwhelmingly enjoy.

Will the Contempt Vote Make Lois ‘Lerner’ Lesson?

Yesterday’s vote to hold former IRS official Lois Lerner in contempt of Congress represents another step forward in the ongoing quest to hold the agency accountable for the discrimination it practiced against conservative non-profit groups in the 2012 presidential election.

Key Vote NO on the Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act, S. 2262

As one of our over 6 million FreedomWorks activists nationwide, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to vote NO on the “Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act”, S. 2262. Introduced by Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH), this bill, while being sold as an energy efficiency overhaul for the country, is merely a conglomeration of government meddling and waste.

Texas Reigns as the Business Empire State

Last week, Texas Governor Rick Perry challenged New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to a friendly debate over economic policies. Perry issued the challenge during a trip to the Empire state in which he was to meet business owners, trying to convince them to move their operations to Texas. Cuomo, when given a chance to defend against Perry's statements that business men and women in New York are "taxed too much" and that "the regulatory climate is too onerous," declined. Cuomo simply stated, "I don't think so."
