Today, President Obama signed legislation to extend unemployment benefits. Congress claims this measure is both necessary and beneficial. Art Laffer wrote an excellent piece in the Wall Street Journal a couple weeks ago explaining why such claims demonstrate flawed and dangerous thinking. Extending benefits will extend unemployment.

ADP May jobs report falls short of expectations

Politicians are proving Milton Friedman’s observation that “the government solution to a problem is usually as bad as the problem,” true once again (the Milton Friedman video below complements this blog post aptly). This time they are raising the federal minimum wage from $6.55 to $7.25 on July 24.
