Red Tape, Hidden Taxes and Regulation

Business in the United States continues to struggle not only with the sluggish economy, but also the burdensome regulations imposed by the federal government. One study estimates put the total cost of federal regulation on business in the United States over $1 trillion.  The staggering cost of regulation is a significant burden for American businesses, with small businesses bearing an especially heavy burden.  The coming years will see a significant increase in regulation, as federal agencies write new regulations to implement ObamaCare and the Dodd-Frank financial services reform legislation, as well major environmental regulations being pushed by the EPA. Regulatory reform is essential to ensure these regulations that do not impose costs that exceed their benefits.  Cost-benefit analysis, risk assessment, risk prioritization, and market-based incentives are fundamental components that should be included in any reform of the process.  In a global marketplace, the United States cannot afford to hamper its economic growth with excessive and unnecessary regulations.

Florida's Personal Injury Protection Law: How a Government Mandate is Bankrupting the Sunshine State

No-fault/Personal Injury Protection (PIP) laws are a prime example of the danger posed by the substitution of free market mechanisms for government mandates. In states with PIP laws on the books, the costs of insurance premiums are skyrocketing and rampant fraud and abuse of the system is to blame. PIP laws were put in place to protect the consumer but in states like Florida, consumers are faced with ever increased premiums to account for the impact of fraud on the system.

Jobs Are Under Attack in Ohio

Last month, Rep. Steve Stivers voted YES on the TRAIN Act, which protects jobs in Ohio from being destroyed by unelected and unaccountable EPA bureaucrats. Now, far-left environmental groups are distorting the facts about the TRAIN Act and attacking Rep. Stivers to advance their extreme anti-business agenda.

HELP US DEFEND Rep. Stivers! Please call his office TODAY and thank him for keeping Ohio working with his YES vote on the TRAIN Act.

RIP Steve Jobs: Here's to the Entrepreneur

Ever since I was a little kid, I have always been inspired by entrepreneurs who risked nearly everything to pursue their dreams. I usually had an idea for some new business venture up my sleeve as a middle schooler. While my babysitting or dog walking businesses weren’t as successful as I dreamed up in my head, it made me appreciate all the hard work entrepreneurs go through to get a business off the ground.

Key Vote YES on Cement Sector Regulatory Relief Act

Dear FreedomWorks member,

As one of our million-plus FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your Representative and ask him or her to vote YES on H.R. 2681, the Cement Sector Regulatory Relief Act. Introduced by Rep. John Sullivan (R-OK), the bill would prohibit the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations from coming into effect which would place burdensome regulations on the cement industry. If the EPA moves forward with their unnecessary cement MACT rule, it could cost thousands of jobs and hamper economic growth.
