“Armey Seeks to Press Candidates on Bedrock Issues”
Former House Majority Leader Dick Armey says presidential candidates must be forced to address needed Social Security reforms.
Armey says he was in Iowa today to organize people to force debate on the issue.
The Texas Republican was a leader of the G-O-P's takeover of Congress in 1994. He now heads a group called Freedom Works, which advocates for cutting government spending and overhauling Social Security.
Armey says it's not reasonable to expect politicians to duck real issues on the campaign trail and then deal with them after they are elected.
During his stop in Iowa, Armey met with leaders of the anti-tax group Iowans for Discounted Taxes.
He says the only solution is a massive scaling back of the size of government.
Army says the problem has grown worse with Republicans controlling both chambers of Congress and the White House.
