“GOP backlash slams green Gov. Crist”
Conservative Republicans, led by former U.S. House majority leader Dick Armey, are up in arms about fellow GOP guv Charlie Crist’s attack on global warming.
Freedomworks, a Washington, D.C.-based organization founded and headed by Armey, launched a petition campaign opposing Crist’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the state.
Freedomworks’ Web site encourages like-minded viewers to post messages voicing their angst over Crist’s Democrat-approved agenda, and likens the governor to Democratic U.S. House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
The hope is that the petition will make Crist aware of the conservative backlash his stance has generated, according to Armey’s online missive.
While dissing Crist, the group lauds GOP House Speaker Marco Rubio, who has publicly criticized Crist’s global warming initiative.
Armey calls Rubio a “brave lawmaker” who has taken a “bold stand for economic freedom and common sense” in his opposition to Crist.
