Call to Action: S. 353- The Class Action Fairness Act

CALL YOUR SENATOR AT 202-224-3121 TO URGE PASSAGE OF S.353-THE CLASS ACTION FAIRNESS ACT!!!! If you won $1 in a lawsuit and your lawyer got paid almost $1 million, that wouldn’t be fair. Yet, that is exactly what happens with some state-based class action lawsuits. The Senate will soon vote on legislation that will return fairness to state-based class action lawsuits by allowing their removal to federal court. The U.S. House of Representatives passed similar legislation last year. For information on this legislation click on the link below:

Term limiters vote differently

BY Chris Hayter / James Miller III

The November elections are quickly approaching, and challengers are gearing up for the formidable task of unseating incumbents. Of the 30 House seats that are open, six are being relinquished voluntarily by members who have term-limited themselves. In these times of plenty, it is good to know we have selfless heroes committed to the ideal of citizen legislators.

Medicare and Prescription Drug Coverage for Seniors Citizens: Empty Promises Aren’t the Prescription America’s Seniors Need

For eight years seniors have waited for leadership from the Clinton-Gore Administration to solve America’s Medicare and prescription drug crisis. The White House has not led—worse, this administration walked away from and the House Democrats walked out on bipartisan efforts to strengthen Medicare and provide prescription drug coverage options for seniors. Now, Vice President Gore is playing politics and pushing a dangerous Medicare plan that promises more than it provides. The Gore plan actually will:

Tech Bytes - Tid Bits in Tech News: Consumers in Captivity: In Which Country do FCC Regulators Live?

A public filing released just before the holiday weekend reveals that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Cable Bureau has intensified scrutiny of the proposed AOL-Time Warner (AOL-TW) merger. This news comes in the midst of countless reports of price wars between cable modem, Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service, and wireless broadband alternatives. With all of the price competition, why regulate?

WILL REAL GOP SAY 'NO' TO ADS?

BY Myriam Marquez

To borrow from rapper Eminem: Will the Real Republicans please stand up, please stand up? Because there are a lot of "slim shadies" out there and fat-cat shady characters running some of the sleaziest and meanest political advertising that voters have endured this primary-election season. And now we're left with the after-primary hangover to contemplate how best to stop this nonsense once and for all.

CSE Responds to Bush Medicare Proposal

“It is heartening to see that Gov. Bush’s plan is one that finally recognizes the failure of Medicare to meet the health care and prescription drug coverage needs for America’s seniors, and works to address those failures—responsibly, not just rhetorically,” stated CSE’s Vice President of Public Affairs, Marty Reiser.
