Key Vote YES on the Financial CHOICE Act, H.R. 10

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and urge him or her to vote YES on the Regulations from the Financial CHOICE Act, H.R. 10, introduced by Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas). The Financial CHOICE Act would significantly reform the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act by reducing its regulatory overreach and increase accountability.

Repeal the Gas Tax

Earlier this year, Gov. Eric Holcomb (R-Ind.) signed legislation to raise the state gas tax of Indiana in order to increase road funding. The move had major support from the leadership of the state Republican Party with Indiana House Speaker Brian Bosma saying “It’s a program that’s responsive, comprehensive, sustainable, and it’s for the next generation.” It seems interesting then that Gov. Holcomb promised to take Indiana to the “next level” since this seems like a step back.

New York is Reforming their Criminal Justice System

For every hundred American adults, there is one person behind bars. For every four out of ten released, it’s only a matter of three years until they are back in the prison system. This vicious cycle has become normalized because we have kept prison an institution of punishment for every offender, regardless of crime. Someone caught with a few ounces of marijuana should not be held to the same punishment as someone who has committed murder.

Net Neutrality Has Nothing to Do With Censorship

Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai put the Obama-era “net neutrality” rules on the chopping block in a 2-1 vote on May 18th to move forward with a proposed rulemaking to overturn the 2015 Open Internet Order. One mythical claim by activists who favor net neutrality is that repeal of the Open Internet Order legalizes website censorship and hurts free speech. Following this narrative, internet service providers (ISPs) could arbitrarily block their broadband customers from accessing any websites they please. An especially feared target of censorship is online services provided by competitor companies.

From My Cold Dead Keyboard

The global community has been rocked by tragedy after tragedy over the last several weeks, but few instances have captured the international spotlight as readily as the recent attacks in London . The international community was quick to offer their support to the beleaguered Britain, but a troubling response came from that nation's own leader.

Support the RESET Act, S. 1252

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to call your senators and ask them to cosponsor the Reclassification to Ensure Smarter and Equal Treatment (RESET) Act, S. 1252, sponsored by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). The bill would reclassify several low-level felonies as misdemeanors, by lowering the prison time down to no greater than one year and no more than $1,000 for nonviolent drug offenses.

Paris Climate Agreement Will Follow Kyoto Protocol to the Ash Heap of History

If the Paris Climate Accord was such a great deal for the United States, why did President Barack Obama not submit it to the Senate for treaty ratification after signing onto it with considerable fanfare on Sept. 3?

An Act to Protect the Rights of Employees

Last month, Rep. Phil Roe (R-Tenn.) introduced H.R. 2723, the Employee Rights Act (ERA). Perhaps the largest labor law reform in the US since the Taft-Hartley Act of 1947, the legislation would significantly increase work privacy, promote dialogue between workers and bosses, protect freedom of conscience, and expand legal rights protections. Having garnered support from Heritage Action and Americans for Prosperity, this vital legislation is a crucial step for worker freedom.
