Thanks to the Supreme Court, Seniors Still "Trapped in Medicare"

In 2008, a group of liberty-minded citizens filed a lawsuit, Hall v. Sebelius, to disconnect Medicare Part A membership from their Social Security benefits. Last February, the D.C. Court of Appeals narrowly ruled in favor of the government, and the case seemed destined to reach the Supreme Court. Unfortunately, the Supreme Court recently announced that it would refuse to hear the case, thereby rendering the lower court’s decision final.

How You Can Save Your Country

Government goes to those who show up, right?  We've learned that we can't go to sleep and expect our nation to survive. Those with a penchant to support overbearing government programs to solve every societal ill never rest. Those of us who want to rein in government spending and fight for individual liberty cannot rest either. To limit government and keep it honest, we can't start at the top. We have to start at the bottom, at the most local level, where the trouble  often starts. The best place to start saving the country is right where you are. Local government controls much of what you and your family does on a daily basis.  Whether it's water rights, local taxes, street signage or the curriculum being taught in your schools, you should have a voice and be involved.  Find your passion and get busy. There are some activities that are easy to start doing that can produce immediate results, and give you a great sense of accomplishment along the way.

Labor Unions and Mandatory Dues

Many public and private sector labor unions require mandatory dues from their members or a fee from non-members within the same workplace.  This policy harkens back to a time when union membership was compulsory.  Under the Wagner Act of 1935, employers were forced to collectively bargain with employees under its purview whether they were unionized or not.  This act spurred union membership by 55%, but this alone was not enough.

Obama’s Misguided Push For Universal Preschool

Among the many policy initiatives discussed in President Obama’s State of the Union address Tuesday night was a proposal to provide pre-kindergarten education for 4-year olds in all fifty states, an expansion of the Head Start program first started in 1965.

Indiana Takes the Lead on Reforming Occupational Licensure

The Indiana legislature is considering a new bill that would cause license requirements for certain professions to automatically expire every five years unless members of that profession can provide a convincing reason why the requirement should remain in place. This would mark a major reform to the way license requirements are currently handled, where a licensed profession tends to remain that way for perpetuity, with few attempts even to question the wisdom of such policies.

Kasich Pitches Obamacare Surrender as Pragmatism

Ohio Governor John Kasich announced his surrender to Washington spending gimmicks on February 4, calling for the expansion of Medicaid eligibility as part of his biennial budget proposal. Kasich, a Republican elected in 2010 and known as a fiscal hawk from his time in Congress, seeks to sell a key component of Obamacare as the pragmatic choice for Ohio.

The World Has Not Solved The Problem of Inflation

Throughout the various rounds of quantitative easing enacted by the Federal Reserve in response to a persistently sluggish economy, advocates of loose monetary policy have kept a gleeful eye on the Consumer Price Index, pointing to the lack of measured inflation as evidence for the soundness of their ideas and the groundless paranoia of their detractors.
