Republicans are getting more libertarian, because America is

This morning, the ever-insightful Conn Carroll of the Washington Examiner observes that, on just about every issue you can think of, the Republican party is becoming more libertarian. He notes:

What is the SSPICE Act?The Social Security Preservation through Individual Choice Enhancement Act is a bill introduced in the House (H.R. 3551) by Rep. Jeff Landry (R-LA) and in the Senate (S. 2107) by Senators Mike Lee (R-UT) and Jim DeMint (R-SC). The SSPICE Act would allow each worker to annually decide whether he or she wants to reduce his or her payroll taxes by about 30 percent (i.e., lower his or her taxes from the current level of 6.2 percent of wages to just 4.2 percent).

ObamaCare: Supreme Court may postpone ruling till 2016

This morning's newspapers report an ominous development in the ObamaCare litigation, now pending in the U.S. Supreme Court: The Court posted a seemingly minor but potentially important administrative change that reminds us that it could postpone a final ruling on the constitutionality of ObamaCare until the middle of 2016!  Specifically, the high Court increased the time it will devote to hearing oral arguments on whether the mandate to purchase health insurance is a "tax" for purposes of something called the Tax Anti-Injunction Act (26 U.S.C. § 7421(a)).

Rep. Jeff Landry Presents the SSPICE Act

This morning, Representative Jeff Landry (R-LA) and representatives from FreedomWorks and the Cato Institute presented a briefing on the Social Security Preservation through Individual Choice Enhancement (SSPICE) Act. In response to the seemingly endless debate over the payroll tax cut, Rep. Landry has introduced this common sense reform bill into the House (bill number H.R. 3551), while Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) have cosponsored an identical bill in the Senate (S. 2107).

Conference Call with Rep. Jeff Landry - Listen to the Call Here!

Last Monday, the 6th of February, FreedomWorks' Vice President Max Pappas held a conference call with Rep. Jeff Landry of Louisiana and hundreds of our members.  Congressman Landry gave an update on how things are going in Congress, and also discussed his bill the SSPICE Act, which addresses the payroll tax cut.  We received a lot of positive feedback from those who called in to listen, and we’d like to share the full audio of the call for those who weren’t able to attend:

Team Obama changes its story -- again! -- on whether health mandate is a tax

This morning, reversing position yet again, the Obama Administration testified in the House Budget Committee that the ObamaCare health care mandate is not a tax. President Obama's acting budget director, Jeffrey Zients, was asked by Republican Congressman Scott Garrett of New Jersey whether the IRS-collected penalty on those who don't comply with the health care law's mandate to purchase government-controlled health insurance is a tax. Zients replied, "No."
