Dear FreedomWorks member,As one of our millions of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your Representative and ask them to cosponsor H.R. 828, the “Decrease Spending Now Act.” Introduced by Rep. Tom Price (GA-6), the bill mandates that the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) withdraw $45 billion from unobligated balances of discretionary appropriations within 60 days.

Iowa Lawmakers Propose Increase in Gas Tax

Lawmakers and lobbyists in Iowa are pushing for an additional 10 cent per gallon gasoline tax, on top of the 21 cent gas tax already in place. Raising the gas tax, especially in this stalled economy, would hurt Iowa families by forcing them to pay even more at the gas pump. This proposed tax would be particularly cruel since the average gas price in Iowa is a whopping $3.70 per gallon.

This bill would replace much of the decreased spending of sequestration with tax increases on the highest income earners, while also exempting favored programs from any cuts.

On Saturday, February 16th, 16 candidates vying to fill the seat formerly held by Senator Tim Scott met at the Embassy Suites Hotel in North Charleston for a substantive policy discussion.
