Health Care Freedom Act Passes VA Senate Committee

ObamaCare may be dead in its current form, but Virginians are taking no chances. Two separate bills, one in the House of Delegates and the other in the state Senate, would effectively nullify any attempt by the federal government to mandate that individuals purchase certain health insurance plans. And yesterday, thanks in part to the tireless efforts of activists like VA Campaign for Liberty's Donna Holt, Senate Bill 417 got a big win.

MA Senate Race: Beyond Health Care

It's important to remember that the results of yesterday's election in Massachusetts have consequences beyond the immediate threat of ObamaCare. The election of Scott Brown to the U.S. Senate may very well have thwarted already struggling cap and trade legislation.  The New York Times has the story:

Virginia 10th Amendment Rally Draws 2,400 to the Capitol Grounds

Yesterday, I joined a record-breaking Lobby Day crowd of Virginians at the steps of the bell tower on Richmond's Capitol Grounds. I had the privilege to be one of the speakers who addressed the gathering on topics like the Tenth Amendment and its fundamental importance in our American system of divided sovereignty. They didn't need the lesson.

Resistance Is Not Futile: Forgotten Lessons from the Nullification Crisis

Even as calls for nullification of proposed federal health care mandates have intensified on the state level, an almost hysterical effort has arisen to discredit such measures, and paint them as part of an obsolete theory with no bearing on modern politics.Regardless of its logical descent from our most basic founding principle, that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, nullification simply doesn’t work, critics say.Or does it?

We'll see you in court, ObamaCare

It's pretty clear to most folks who pay even a little attention to freedom, individual liberty, and other good things that an insurance mandate may run afoul of a little thing many of us miss called the Constitution.  Numerous activists have called asking about this, more have commented through the website, and all of us know that, should ObamaCare pass, there will definitely be a constitutional challenge.
