Harvesting Reforms from the Farm Bill: The Senate Amendments

The Senate is considering the Farm Bill this week, a nearly-trillion-dollar bundle of corporate welfare, wasteful spending, and food stamps.  FreedomWorks has issued a Key Vote NO against this bill. However, there are a number of amendments that are being offered to the Farm Bill that would achieve significant, measurable reforms.FreedomWorks encourages Senators to vote YES on all of the following amendments. Any of these amendments (or those similar) that come up for a vote may be scored on FreedomWorks' scorecard for 2013.

Key Vote YES on Sugar Program Reform Amendment to S. 954

Dear FreedomWorks member,As one of our millions of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your U.S. Senators and urge them to vote YES on the Toomey-Shaheen sugar program reform amendment (#925) to the Farm Bill, S. 954. The special treatment of the sugar industry in the farm bill is among the most egregious examples of corporate welfare anywhere in the federal code.

Key Vote NO on the Senate "Farm Bill"

Dear FreedomWorks member,As one of our millions of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your U.S. Senators and urge them to vote NO on the Senate’s version of the Farm Bill, S. 954. While it is entitled the “Agriculture Reform, Food, and Jobs Act of 2013”, this bill is a bloated microcosm of everything that is wrong with the federal government, containing corporate welfare, direct welfare, government subsidies and carve-outs for favored industries, and a brand new entitlement program to boot.

Tell Your Representative to Support the SEC Accountibility Act!

Dear FreedomWorks member,As one of our millions of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and urge him or her to vote YES on H.R. 1062, SEC Regulatory Accountability Act. Introduced by Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ), this bill would provide much needed accountability to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This common sense bill is simple and to the point: it would require the SEC to perform a cost-benefit analysis before enacting any new major regulations.

Dear FreedomWorks member,As one of our millions of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to contact your U.S. Senators and urge them to vote NO on the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), S. 601. This bloated infrastructure spending bill functions more like a stimulus bill for infrastructure projects that would be better left to states and localities.
