ACTION ALERT: Tell Congress to support U.S. Oil Exploration!
Email Alert! Subject: Support US Oil Exploration
We need your help now to convince moderate Republicans in Congress to drop their short-sighted opposition to developing new oil and natural gas resources in America.
Despite high gas prices and much higher heating bills this winter, a small group of Republican congressmen are blocking the one piece of legislation now being considered that would help provide a long-term solution to America's energy crisis.
Like every other member of Congress, these moderates are complaining that gas prices are too high and something has to be done about it. But their actions don't match their words. Their actions say they don't think energy prices are too high.
Here's the background:
On November 10, House leaders were forced to pull a budget bill that would cut out-of-control federal spending by $53 billion dollars. The reason is that every Democrat in the House is opposed to these cuts and committed to vote against them. That means nearly every Republican vote is needed to pass the budget bill.
This gives a small group of Republicans veto power over the provisions in the budget bill that would increase domestic energy production. This small group of 25 Republicans are strongly opposed to opening a small portion of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to oil and gas exploration.
The provision to open a small part of the Arctic National Wildlife (ANWR) to oil and gas exploration cannot pass without their support -- even though that provision has already passed the House with a comfortable bi-partisan majority -- since it appears that not a single Democrat will vote for the budget bill.
As if on cue, radical environmental groups like the NRDC, plus far-left activist groups like Ben Cohen's (of Ben and Jerry's) "True Majority", moved their members to send tens of thousands of messages to Congressional fence-sitters... and their actions reversed our almost-sure victory.
As many Americans are facing much higher heating bills that they can't afford, Congress needs to get serious about unlocking our enormous domestic energy resources. The provisions in the budget bill to open ANWR and some of America's offshore oil and gas resources are a good first step in the right direction.
We need to urge this small group of moderate Republicans to reconsider their position and put the interests of their constituents ahead of a few radical environmental pressure groups, who have been spreading misinformation about ANWR for decades.
It's time to FIGHT BACK and restore common sense to our energy policies.
Please send a letter to your Congressman NOW!! and urge him or her to support efforts to open a small part of ANWR to domestic energy production.
Sincerely,

Dick Armey
