Californians Should Defeat Prop 1A Tax Hike!

By Brendan Steinhauser on May 05, 2009

On tax day hundreds of protests swept the country, as Americans sent a message that government spending is out of control and higher taxes during a recession is a terrible idea. In Sacramento, the protest brought thousands of people to the steps of the state capitol, and targeted politicians of both major political parties. Organizers and attendees sounded a common theme: "We don't care which party is in power. We just don't want them to raise our taxes or increase state spending."

It is that message that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger needs to hear again. The governor is spending millions of dollars on an effort to pass various propositions on the ballot on May 19th. All of these propositions are bad public policy, and Prop 1A in particular would raise taxes on Californians by $16 billion! This would be the largest state tax hike in our nation's history, and Californians must make a stand to defeat it.

TAKE ACTION!

The grassroots opposition to Prop 1A has been growing daily, and was apparent at the dozens of tax day tea parties held across the state. I'd like to simply encourage all of you to keep up the good fight, and know that this is a battle between grassroots fiscal conservatives and the big government establishment. Even though we are being outspent by millions of dollars, shoe-leather politics can and will defeat this brazen effort to raise taxes.

Sincerely,
