Connecticut Tax Battle Continues

By Adam Brandon on March 07, 2007
Last month, Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell proposed a potentially disastrous tax hike package that would include a $0.49 cigarette tax increase, bringing the total tax to $2.00, and a 10% income tax increase. This week state legislators introduced their plan to fund a $900 million universal health care system, which would also include a new 3% provider tax on doctors. TAKE ACTION NOW TO DEFEAT THESE NEW TAXES!

These tax increases would not only break Connecticut’s state-mandated spending cap, but would also raise the income tax a whopping $3.4 billion over five years. FreedomWorks members have taken the fight against these tax hikes to the political parties, legislators and the media. Thanks to those of you who have sent letters to the editor and called the Governor. Please continue to help us battle these tax increases and massive new government programs by using our automated email system to send a message to legislators.

It is time for Gov. Rell and Connecticut lawmakers to learn to live within their means and show a commitment to fiscal discipline. With a current budget surplus the idea of massive new tax hikes is outrageous. When times get tough for hard-working families in Connecticut, they have to cut expenses and pinch pennies. Why shouldn't families expect the same from their state government?

Sincerely,

Dick Armey
