Dick Armey Accepts Invitation to Speak at Atlanta Tax Day Tea Party on April 15
Washington, DC - On April 15, the national grassroots tea party movement that began in response to corporate and mortgage bailouts, the $1 trillion dollar debt stimulus plan, and President Obama’s $2 trillion dollar budget deficit, will culminate in tax day tea parties across the nation.
April 15 is the focus of the next round of tea parties, when Americans come face to face with the costs of bloated government and runaway spending. To make sure activists are supported in their effort to oppose the bankrupting of America by politicians in Washington and state capitals, FreedomWorks has joined TaxDayTeaParty.com, a web site coordinating events for April 15.
FreedomWorks Chairman Dick Armey has hosted various tea parties already, and on April 15 Chairman Armey has accepted the invitation of the Atlanta Tax Day Tea Party. Armey will be joined by thousands of activists, and Fox News’ Sean Hannity Show will broadcast from the event.
FreedomWorks’ tea party efforts began on February 10th when FreedomWorks Florida members organized a counter-protest to an Obama town hall event in Fort Myers, Florida promoting the wrong-headed stimulus plan. Since February, FreedomWorks members have joined other taxpayers in hundreds of tea parties across the country to send a message that in difficult economic times taxpayers cut costs and live on a tight budget, and so should government.
FreedomWorks Chairman Dick Armey added, “This taxpayer revolt has sprouted up from the grassroots and is just getting started. The taxpayers are angry at what they see in Washington, DC and they have decided to turn up the volume. Tax and spend politicians beware. This grassroots energy and activism could lead to fundamental political changes in this country, starting with the firing of tax and spend politicians.”
“I am deeply worried that the explosion in spending and government borrowing will put this country on a path to bankruptcy and ruin, and with the thousands of Americans turning out at tea parties all over the country, it is clear I’m not alone in my concerns. Citizens understand that when the government spends money it does not have, it only has three options: borrow, raise taxes, or simply print more money. The $2 trillion dollar deficit is simply borrowed from future taxpayers at a cost to future economic growth, and no country has ever borrowed and spent its way to prosperity.”
