FreedomWorks Foundation Decries Punitive Taxes on Small Business Entrepreneurs
Obama’s budget grabs power and taxes for Washington, punishing the entrepreneurial spirit we need for a recovery
FreedomWorks Foundation Vice President for Public Policy Max Pappas joined Reps. Mike Pence (R-IN), Kevin Brady (R-TX) and Lynn Jenkins (R-KS), among others, to oppose the principles put forth in the Obama budget at a press conference today at the US Capitol. This group of legislative and civic entrepreneurs, committed to reining in taxes, spoke out against the administration’s tax-hike plan.
Max Pappas commented:
“President Obama claims that he does not ‘disparage wealth’ or ‘begrudge anybody for achieving success.’ But that is exactly what his first budget does by imposing punitive tax increases on the small businesses and entrepreneurs that are the key to economic recovery and job creation.
“When America has shined, it has been when government has restrained itself, allowing the progress and innovation entrepreneurs bring as they discover better ways forward. The Obama budget, with its Washington power-grab and dramatic increase in taxation, is the opposite of what America needs in this time of economic turmoil. It taxes too much and gives too much power to politicians when it should be easing the government burden and setting the entrepreneurial spirits of small businesses free to create new economic growth.
“Rather than centralizing the economic decision making process with 535 politicians in Congress and countless bureaucrats in the Executive Branch, the Obama Administration should seek ways to get out of the way, letting the minds of 300 million potential entrepreneurs in America get to work on the recovery process.
“Higher taxes that punish innovation are not the answer. This should be the entrepreneur’s moment. To that end, we’re holding the ‘I am an Entrepreneur’ competition at FreedomWorks.org. We’re inviting America’s entrepreneurs to tell the world their story, and to remind Washington that entrepreneurs, not the politicians, are who make America great.”
