Topeka, KS - FreedomWorks applauds Governor Kathleen Sebelius for signing the Kansas Video Competition Act--SB 449 which opens the door for increased competition and innovation in the video services market and modernizes the state's outdated telecommunications regulations. The legislation will encourage the deployment of new technologies such as video programming over phone lines that will provide consumers a choice when it comes to choosing their cable providers. Kansas consumers will see the benefits of better service and increased competition in the cable market. Kansas now joins Indiana and Texas as national leaders in telecom reform.

FreedomWorks Chairman Dick Armey commented, "Once again an outdated system of government over-regulation falls to common sense. Kansas will see the benefit of increased competition in lower prices and better service. This is a real victory for consumers and the Kansas economy.”

Today's market is changing rapidly, with growing competition between phone, wireless, cable, satellite, and other providers. The governor's signature paved the way for increased competition and the potential gains for consumers and the economy of Kansas. The new bill promotes competition while creating incentives to invest in the networks that will boost employment and give Kansans a step up in the knowledge economy.

The Kansas campaign is a part of FreedomWorks' national "Choose Your Cable" campaign, an effort in support of broad nationwide telecommunications reform through an integrated campaign that included extensive activist education, targeted grassroots lobbying, and both print and television advertising.

FreedomWorks is a national grassroots organization promoting lower taxes, less government, and more freedom nationwide with over 800,000 members. They are proud to have helped bring their 7,000 FreedomWorks members in Kansas cable competition.
