FreedomWorks Launches “NoLameDuck.com” Project
To guard against lame duck session following Congressional midterms, FreedomWorks will recruit activists in the battle ground states for the elections in 2012
By Jackie Bodnar on June 30, 2010
Washington, D.C. – This week, FreedomWorks launched the campaign website, “NoLameDuck.com” to build conservative grassroots opposition to a potential lame duck session immediately following the 2010 elections in November and before the new Congress is sworn-in.
Given the success of conservatives in the early primary battles, it is likely that Democrats in Congress will be dealt a serious blow in this year’s election cycle. With the threat of losing control of both the House and Senate, far-Left leaders including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are signaling towards a lame duck session as a last chance to enact liberal wish list items- with the cap and energy tax, card check, and additional spending and tax hikes at the top of the list.
FreedomWorks believes any last-chance liberal legislation would be a smack to the face of the majority popular sentiment in support of fiscal conservative policy. NoLameDuck.com plans to recruit hundreds of thousands of activists to sign a petition opposing a liberal lame duck grab-bag, and expose it for the ultimate political dirty-trick that it is.
The main focus for grassroots activists in opposition to a lame duck Congress will be in the states with Senators who are up for re-election in two years. Constituents in these states will make it clear that the upcoming Senate votes will not be forgotten when the 2012 election cycle rolls around.
As new activists are recruited through the petition, FreedomWorks will engage additional activities including: district office visits and protests, phone blitzes, and petition deliveries to targeted legislators.
FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe commented, “Conservative activists and tea party groups all over the country have done well to hold the line against threats to liberty like cap and trade and the union’s card check power grab. But we see the potential threat of a lame duck session as very real, despite its underhanded nature. Don’t forget how the Left rammed through Obamacare. They will stop at nothing to enact their socialist agenda.”
