FreedomWorks Weekend Poll: 82 percent of Republicans Favor a Continuing Resolution that Defunds Obamacare
Washington, DC- FreedomWorks is promising a Key Vote “NO” against the House effort to sidestep regular order and enable the Senate to fund ObamaCare. Speaker John Boehner is using a procedural trick called “deem and pass” to pass a continuing resolution (CR) defunding ObamaCare in the House, while working out a deal that allows the Senate to remove defunding ObamaCare from the CR before their vote.
FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe commented, “This is a classic ‘Boehner bait-and-switch’ that allows House Republicans to blink on ObamaCare funding, while telling their constituents the opposite. The entire purpose of the Lee-Meadows letters was to link the defunding of ObamaCare to the best leverage the Republicans have, the continuing resolution. Speaker Boehner is giving the Senate a “hall pass” to separate the two, inevitably funding ObamaCare as a result.”
A new FreedomWorks poll conducted over the past weekend found that an overwhelming 82 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents favor a continuing resolution that “does not include funding for Obamacare.” The polling company, inc./WomanTrend, on behalf of FreedomWorks, conducted interviews for the nationwide telephone survey of 1,000 adults between September 6 and September 9, 2013, with 65 percent landlines, 35 percent cellphones. The margin of error (MoE) for the national survey is +/- 3.0 percent.
FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe commented, “Grassroots conservatives want Republicans to stand up for good policy when it counts, not to protect their approval ratings through symbolic votes and procedural trickery. Giving the Senate a “hall pass” to separate defunding ObamaCare from the CR and siding with Washington over grassroots America would be political suicide for the House GOP heading into 2014.”
FreedomWorks has already issues a Key Vote “NO” against any Continuing Resolution that contains funding for the further implementation or enforcement of ObamaCare.
